It’s only a long ranged class because it’s only getting long ranged spells

Heavier slower magics would probably love some more closer ranged spells

Plus again mage having a few close ranged spells for some “get off me” tools would be fine

It doesn’t have as much insane gap closing mobility that the other classes have

The entire reason why shotguns are better at closer ranges is because they become inaccurate and unreliable at farther ranges due to bullet spread.

Surge is a spewer (like flame-throwers): it streams a continous ammo that does spread because thats how materials work, which inversely causes lower damage because you’re being hit by less.

Calling surge a shotgun is also saying a flamethrower is a shotgun.
