The tartareans are essentially magma versions of gaians and atlanteans, being very dangerous fire themed enemies that often use heat based magics to attack, their essence applies to ship parts, mainly focusing on increasing damage of rams and cannons as well as attachments, but at the same time, increasing their cooldown.
Icefolk are unique.
They are the ONLY friendly/neutral variant found in the dark sea.
they act as “rest points” for travellers to repair their ships or obtain new gear to continue exploring.
They have no essence, instead, they have many shops, cultural items, and special weapons.
You can fight their town guards to obtain their exclusive armor, which has no negative effects and instead simply grants attack size/agility to whoever wears it.
Destroying their villages does count towards negative renown.
honestly the dark seas could have a whole host of different mutant types now that I think about it.
If there’s horrible mutant fish people that were mutated by the rain and ocean water, then logically that’d mean different things would happen on land and in sky islands… assuming dark sea sky islands are gonna happen at some point.
As for a name for these, how about Nymphs? The nature people of Greek myth.
Another thing that people regularly associate with something beautiful much like Atlantis twisted into a terrible abomination.
