Gathering opinions for a massive Dark Sea suggestion

Large Waves. I’m tired of bringing up this member of the Team Immersion, but this is relevant right now. Large waves generate wherever your camera is pointed, they deal chip damage to your ship and may catch you and sweep away. The last part is problematic. Dark Sea fishers have to constantly reposition or get really lucky with island generation, normal players may get stranded in the sea after trying to get to their bathtub, and fights against the local monsters may get interrupted by a passing wave. Do you people think that is alright?

There’s also the fact that they just… don’t work properly. At all.

For one, if a wave passes over you/your ship while it’s stopped, you start losing air, regardless of whether or not the wave made a puddle. I’ve found that T-jumping tends to clear that losing-air effect after a few tries, but 1) it’s not reliable and 2) if you’re not moving, it takes a lot longer, or sometimes doesn’t clear at all.

Second, their hitboxes are SO WEIRD. Sometimes the bit that grabs you/hits your ship is in the front, sometimes it’s in the back, sometimes a wave that looks like it’s hitting you directly just completely passes through your ship. It makes it very hard to use the brace button correctly, since there’s a 1ish-second delay between when you press it and when it actually takes effect, and it only takes effect for a split second. If the wave hitbox is in just slightly the wrong spot, you miss it completely and take full damage.

Krakens, Giant Krakens and the Omen. The actual menace to any Dark Sea run. Many people have given their complaints about these monsters. You either cheese them with a Range build and waste a lot of time, or you sail closer and get wrecked in seconds (the islandless boatless Omen incident is an exception). They aren’t fun to fight. As for their rewards - you get a lot of meat, which you may use sometimes, and a Kraken Band, which you only need one of. There is little incentive to ever fight Krakens again after obtaining the Band. And don’t point at that one weekly quest - I’m not gonna do that even for 420 points!

The fact that you have to sense all around you for them also makes it very difficult to watch out for hazards. If a giant kraken spawns next to you instead of in front, the tentacles have a significantly larger reach than the tiny sensing blob suggests, and it’ll grab you 3 times without you even seeing it. So you have to constantly be turning on sensing, sweeping your vision around, and quickly turning off sensing so you can actually see if you’re about to hit something, since sensing vision in the Dark Sea might as well be a black screen. There’s also the issue of sensing not turning off properly and your vision staying dark for 10 more seconds, which happens about 1/3 of the time I turn on/off sensing. Horrible. Makes it impossible to see anything and really deincentivizes trying to sense at all, which makes you very vulnerable to a kraken jumpscare. I can’t go to the Dark Sea solo at all anymore since FR, because it is literally impossible to drive the ship and look out for krakens at the same time. I used to exclusively go solo, spending my school study halls fighting Atlanteans for the fun of it, but now to even enter the DS properly I need one other person with chat or a Discord VC with me to warn me about hazards. It sucks.
