Haven’t played it, but it just doesn’t seem like my cup of tea.
Why does everybody keep talking about Deepwoken but not it’s prequel, Highsleepen?
I think that’s a bit of an exaggeration but yeah I’m not a fan of permadeath pvp either but it does get your blood pumping
The parry mechanic is one of the most satisfying things you can hit in that game, but by god. The game sucks to level. I used to hate on the game before buying it, but now I’m confident to say that I still hate it with the exact same passion.
I really dislike losing all my progress to some random high level that just felt like killing me.
we are on the exact same page lol.
I really do feel like it’d be a great and fun game to play and make builds in if you didn’t have to put your whole file at stake to progress.
sucks seeing how people always said that the permadeath is “more lenient than rogue” like hell it is when all the endgame progression is in the instant file erasure area.
Verse 2 kinda fixed that but now we just need another content update
I think deepwoken has potential as a single player rogue-like, it would make each death actually deserved and not “STOP CHASING ME I"M POWER 1!”
Singleplayer or co-op deepwoken are the only ways that the permadeath system would ever be a positive to the game.
PvP permadeath is just one of the most godawful design choices I’ve ever seen in any game.
Not saying it doesn’t happen anymore but the average deepwoken player usually ignores you when progressing (unless their a voidwalker) freshie ganking isn’t really encouraged anymore and is often looked down on heck you even have YouTubers who are willing to spin back if someone gank’s you at low level
I mean this genuinely shouldn’t be a problem that exists in the first place.
Well it’s Rag we’re talking about. Permadeath is just a thing that’s gonna stay in deepwoken it may be the worst game design choice but compared to AO it has a way higher player count.
Exactly.
Deepwoken would be better off if he was never involved in its development.
That includes deepwoken never being made in the first place.
I also genuinely cannot figure out what on earth attracts so many people to deepwoken.
It is one of the most unwelcoming games I’ve ever seen on the platform.
At this point you need to memorize the wiki to properly go through the game or you’re going to be dying and losing your progress tens if not hundreds of times.
How the HELL does a game like that get 20k players???
It gets players since the discover aspect of the game is really good. Each island and mechanic is explored at the player’s pace, with each element and path bringing something new to try.
I was hooked for a while just trying to see what skills each path would bring and how I’d use it in a fight.
I’m not so sure about that but honestly I would be more of a fan of deepwoken became a true rougelike
I mean the average Roblox player base likes shitty anime games and deepwoken is vaguely that at a higher quality
The music and lore are also high tier shit that id even argue is better than the arcane universe lore entirely if only a good chunk of it was in game instead of discord
Oh yeah that’s one thing we can agree on the new player experience is absolute dog shit
When I first bought the game I went straight to YouTube and was still confused lmao
I don’t really care for it and never played it, I tried Rogue but I didn’t get nowhere and ditched the game after like 20-30 minutes
Idk how different Rogue is with DW atm, but I don’t really like it when I have to actively look for 3rd party sources to find info on the game. Yeah eventually people will have to look for 3rd party sources for the game but I do not wanna do that 90% of my playtime as a DW/Rogue Freshie. I wanna play and know the game in game for a while, not read the wiki or YT Guides Day 1
Also Im just not a fan of the M1 Style Combat in general, I’ve only been used to AA Combat ever since. Only other fighting game-ish I enjoyed was PJJ even if that game was a balance hell
rogue lineage is terrible and its community is radioactive run away from it
was never in it in the first place
- I’m a fan of the more grounded, parry-based combat
- PvE feels really satisfying for me to get a sense of the enemy’s attack patterns and learn to overcome it, rather than brute forcing through a level difference
- I think the devs did a great job with the atmosphere and worldbuilding
- Probably my favorite soundtrack in a ROBLOX game I can remember
- I find it to be super replayable
- While I don’t generally like permadeath mechanics, I think DW handles it really well
However, permadeath in PvP is kind of the overwhelming gripe I have with the game. With PvE at least, I can blame myself for not better knowing the enemy attack patterns or exploring an area that I wasn’t prepared to handle and I can walk away having learned some kind of lesson. Not so much the same case when I get killed for the 8th time stepping onto Lower Erisia by a near max player. Dying for reasons that are pretty close to out of my control just isn’t satisfying since the only lesson I can take away is to always be ready to log at a moment’s notice, but I might not be the intended audience for DW.
