Give Bosses cutscenes when they enter a new phase

PROPOSAL

To add immersion and to help showcase cool effects/weapons/skills and so on, bosses should have dialogue cutscenes whenever they enter a new phase, this would obviously happen for the first time when you fight them, so they won’t be annoying if you’re farming them multiple times.

REASONS FOR IMPLEMENTATION

A lot of cool bosses, like calvus, Argos, and so on, have multiple phases where they unleash some kind of secret weapon or brand new ability with a small animation of some kind, however you can’t see them very well because you’re most likely far away from them during the fight.

The only “Immersion” that you get from witnessing a boss enter its second phase in combat is from a dialogue bubble in chat, and honestly that’s a bit underwhelming.

POSSIBLE IDEAS

ARGOS
For his second phase, the screen would cut to him as dialogue appears, same dialogue in the text, giving us a better look at argos’ damaged body, as well as him getting more serious.

When he reveals his cursebane, we can see it better, and perhaps the camera can pan over it while he talks.

CALVUS

the camera goes over to calvus and shows us him activating his aether magic form, just for some intimidation.

ELIUS
We zoom up to elius as a dramatic flash of lightning appears indicating phase 2 has begun.

CARINA
Carina collapses on the floor, but quickly gets back up, says he “oh wow ur strong who will last longer” line, and steam starts to come off her body as she begins regenerating.

POSSIBLE ISSUES

Vetex, from what I know, isn’t a great animator, though he could maybe hire some help?

Could also just not be that important? Though I personally feel like this change could really add some depth and oomph that players get when they fight a boss for the first time and enter a new phase, as well as help showcase cool lore relevant items better, like the cursebane.

I would love to see cutscenes when going into different phases, the only problem I see is if (theoretically) someone beats a boss on their first try without triggering the next phase, they would be missing out on part of the story.

At least not until Vetex fixes the cutscene glitch, this is just going to be a bother.

Although that’d be pretty cool if he fixed that.

Also desync from other players who are helping you beat a boss, while ur in the cutscene the fight still continues on
Imagine seeing Argos pull out his cursebane as he looks at you, with a beast-like raging expression. He yells at you and charges up his attack… then it returns to gameplay and Argos has mysteriously disappeared, your quest says you defeated Argos, and you continue on, underwhelmed by the fight.

But if this makes farming Argos any more fucking annoying then it’s worst suggestion

How about only for the player’s first Time fighting a boss. The only issue is, it would mean that subsequently fought bosses would have to be separate entities from standard bosses. (Which, honestly, may be a good idea.)

tbh i think it should only be reserved for big bosses. For now I’d say only calvus should get the cutscene as he’s the final boss of the bronze sea. In future seas it would probably also be the final bosses that deserve the cutscene too but who knows if there’s a sea where you have to fight multiple big bosses.

how do you beat a boss without triggering the next phase though? that doesn’t seem possible

Is it worth development time is the question? I think the idea is cool and maybe during big fights like Calvus would be worth doing.

I’m not particularly a fan of this idea. If they’re just a one time deal when fighting the boss for the first time, sure. If it’s a repeatable feature, I don’t want it unless there’s the option to disable them in settings, which I don’t see working out so well since cutscenes might make the phase change sequence take longer.

You should keep in mind that these are bosses that we have to farm for a couple hours on average. Sitting through the phase change is somewhat tedious for a task you need to do over and over again. If the cutscenes are gonna make the fights take longer, then I can’t imagine people not complaining about this. Also there’s the possibility of some rker coming in while you’re stuck in the cutscene and charging up a huge attack just in time to kill you after the cutscene is over.
