Let’s look at the Claws weapon type and Twin Crescents’ traits to judge their compatibility. Claws - two small weapons, one held in each half. One of the least adaptable weapon types Twin Crescents - two flying slashes, one delivered from each weapon. Only available on dual swords weapons
Sounds reasonable, huh? A great match to expand their availability.
Let Claws Access Twin Crescents
Possible problems
Let’s get it out of the way - claws are NOT bladed. However, the biggest issue of compatibility which has plagued skills on Dual Bladed weapons does not exist. Claws weapons have two claws which to have seperate slashes emerge from.
The problems aren’t really problems
Spiraling Fury is available on Claws while originating on daggers (weapons are not positioned the same) and Flying Slash is available on Daggers when the same “issue” exists, with the slashes looking a little awkward coming out due to the shorter blade length. While I’m not 100% sure of course I think it would be pretty plug-and-play with allowing Twin Crescents on Claws.
Balancing
Just like Flying Slash on daggers, these slashes would be a lot smaller to compensate for the smaller weapon size, allowing Claws a slightly longer ranged option while keeping Primal Swipe (and presumably Fatal Claw) to dominate in the close range.
Also, it just makes Twin Crescents more accessible.
You could make a similar suggestion for some other weapons (cough RAPIERS cough), and it’d get just as much appreciation. Some weapon types are just worse than others with Customization; the only reason to use a Staff is if it’s the Sunken Staff and you’re a Warrior, the main reason to run Claws is for Primal Swipe, and Axes are mainly just there for Axe Throw or Raging Impact.
Honestly, all of the thick-bladed or blunt weapons, like the Dagger, Sword, and Greathammer get so many skills, and then others are left with just one or two extras.
I don’t think it would be an issue in this case, unlike Mirrored River for example. The animation is just two single slashes without anything all that sword specific. Mirrored River would NOT be claw-worthy due to its obvious draw animation
realistically i assume it wasn’t done either due to animations or visual effects not fitting claws. i’m unsure if there will be more effort spent on adapting weapon skills to other weapon types in the future
?? What do new weapon skills have to do with existing ones?
If you mean fulfilling a longer-ranged capability for claws, it’s been stated that Fatal Claw will be similar to the current Primal Slash, aka a super short range but high damage projectile
Possibly, but that’s only half of the problem. I don’t think Twin Crescents is making it on any other weapon type other than Claws. Regardless of move availability on Claws more skills are always better
Twin sword skills are very restricted right now, and more dual weapon types should be introduced on top of this, in my opinion*
Overally, I hope we can get weapon-based interaction when you put certain skills on different weapons. Maybe you could use mirrored river but it’s got a shorter and wider hitbox with 6 visible slashes for example.
While it’d be really cool if this occurred, I think adjusting skill effects goes a little beyond what Vetex is willing to do when it comes to expanding skill availability. However, he DID put Sword Draw: Flash Strike on the Colossal Greatsword which is absurd considering the use case of the skill so nothing is impossible
