An epithet is a word or short phrase which serves to describe a character, which is usually included as a means of introduction to said character, telling the reader of their most significant traits by making a title out of it. You’ve probably heard of several of these without even realizing it. Here, I’ll provide some examples:
Alexander The Great Guile Odysseus Bloody Mary Grey-Eyed Athena
Richard The Lionheart
All of these are epithets, as epithets can come before or after the individual’s name. And many mythological characters had more than one. Odysseus, for example, had nearly two dozen in Homer’s Odyssey.
Thus, I prompt you to make some epithets for your Arcane Odyssey characters. And feel free to be exaggerated or overly heroic—epithets tended to be so. And with that, I’ll provide the ones I decided on for my characters below:
Sugar Tongued _
Great Bastard _
Gold Eyed _
_ The Venomous
Daughter of Zeus _
Wind-Waking _
Star-Screaming _
Caustic _
(_ indicates where the name is, im too lazy to write them all)
