In Makrinos, there is a set of armour that is guaranteed to spawn. I thought this was very cool, as it removes the mega-annoying RNG system when trying to get this set.
Any part of any game that includes RNG is just inherently annoying to me. It removes skill from the game, and makes it pure luck.
Proposal
Much like the guaranteed spawning set of armour, why can’t there be guaranteed spawning of weapons on specific islands? Say, in dawn island, in the little cave there is a guaranteed spawn of a rusty sword, or something like that.
Reasons
In the early game of creating a weapon-based build, or even in doing some quests, I didn’t have the weapons I wanted to complete the quests* or for my (early-game) build.
Now, If there were locations for specific weapons it would remove the randomness from the current chest system and make the earlier game a bit more streamlined for experienced players who know the weapon locations, and make the early game a bit more logical for new players, who can feel a sense of achievement when stumbling upon an iron greathammer in the harvest island secret.
Some Clarifications
-
This is not intended to replace the current chest system, merely compliment it. The chest system would stay the same, there would just be an alternate way of collecting weapons.
-
*By this, I’m talking about how destroying trees on the sky islands/harvest island for the quests there is a pain if you don’t have a greathammer or some other destruction type weapon. This is especially so if you’re using an essence-type magic like poison which can’t destroy anything.
-
Guaranteed armour spawns were also a possibility for this suggestion, but I thought it would be a better idea if shops just had more armour types on sale, like titanium or deluxe iron.
-
Sunken weapons and boss drops would also be nice to have as guaranteed spawns, but that would completely devalue them and make some people mad, so I’ll leave that alone.
-
You would only be able to pick up the guaranteed spawns once, after which you would no longer be able to see them.
Some more examples of how this could be used
-
Ravenna greatsword - Spawns in Fort Talos, leaning against the wall in the storage area of the basement.
-
Reskins of weapons for events, like a Christmas spear that has the same stats as Lord Elius’, but looks Christmassy. (Could have spawned in War Saint Nicks’ hut)
-
Keraxe Broadsword - Spawns after the protagonist kills the Keraxe raiders in Port Mistral.
-
Iron stave - Spawns at limestone key, In the hand of the statue.
I did not read this through after typing it, there are probably a load of grammar mistakes. Enjoy.
