I had been seeing images with a very distinct art style for a while. Seeing Witherald’s PFP (It’s been changed now) pushed me over the edge and I went and found the source. It turned out to be from a series by animator GeoExe called Gwain Saga.
I watched it. After all, I have nothing better to do. Here’s what I thought.
First of all: the relatively brief, spoiler free version.
The first half is a pretty normal series of internet animations. The animation quality isn’t great, there are a ton of spelling errors, some lines of dialog make no sense, and a lot of it is just plain boring. However, after the halfway point, there’s a bit of a shift. We start seeing better writing, fewer spelling mistakes, better animation, and more action. At this point, the series surprised me. It suddenly turned from an amateurish project made by someone who had no idea what they were doing to a relatively competent animated series. Overall, pretty good. I’d give it more praise if it weren’t for the first half.

The video game and pop culture references are cool
There are only a couple good fights
In the final 2 episodes the animation gets swag
Finally: Verdict
I like it. Not the best thing ever, but cool. I’d like it better if it weren’t for the first half. This series is coming to a close soon, but I’m not sad. I can’t wait to see what GeoExe creates next.

Ami being mute harms her as a character (I feel like she has things to say), it works fine for Geo tho
The show is weirdly sexual at times
Some lines of dialog are poorly thought out or even completely incoherent
EG. “And why can he be under the sun?” “There are vampires that glitter under the sun” What does “There are vampires that glitter under the sun” mean
Typos, grammatical errors everywhere
Some things aren’t properly explained. For example, I don’t recall seeing Gwain say she’d kill geo if anyone found out he’s human.
Pilot, 2, 3, and 4 aren’t great, it gets good in 5
Sr Pelo cameo lol
I’m confused. Am I supposed to know who the villain lady is or not? It’s mentioned once in the pilot, but the canonicity of it is questionable. It’s pretty easy to deduce who she is through some dialogue in episode 6, but IDK if that’s intentional. It’s never explicitly stated in the main series, but that could be a mistake.
Savien talks fancy but the things he says make no sense. I wish he just spoke normally.

Most of the fight scenes have been half-assed but that one between the bad lady and marlow was crazy dang
I guess geo was mad because of the element thing? I felt like I was supposed to know why he was mad.
Damn part 8 looks good

GOD DAMN. THAT I NEED A HERO SEGMENT WAS THE BEST PART OF THE ENTIRE SHOW. WORTH WATCHING JUST FOR THAT.
