The issue
A part of the Full Release update was the addition of many different hues of more “realistic” hair colors, with a wider selection of brown, black, blonde and other “natural” hues. This change delighted a part of the community who, up until that point, was limited to only certain hues, unable to get the ones they desired.
This, however, came at the cost of all the more vibrant hair colors, irritating a different part of the community. Many fun colors were lost to make space for more natural ones. And while it remains unknown why the realistic colors couldn’t have been added on top of the former colors, it remains a fact that, while one side of the community got the colors they wanted to play with, another side lost it entirely.
And for a world of magic, where most of the world is covered in a never-ending storm, where people can turn into pure flame, crystal or another element, where dragons and Greek gods exist, this doesn’t really make sense. Why is a human who stole others’ magics and curses, raised dead and shattered the world acceptable, but pink hair is too unrealistic?
These colors would make a comeback in the form of a side effect of blood diseases. However, for many, this tradeoff is downright horrible. With how useless blood diseases have proven, very few people are willing to trade 30% of their hp for a vanity change.
Another addition in Full Release was quartz, giving weapon users the ability to change their aura color. Quartz, however, remains useful to them alone, and to the remaining builds remains just feature bloat.
Hair dyes
Hair dyes are a new type of “potion” that would allow the players to permanently dye their hair any color they want, overriding blood disease.
Hair dyes themselves would be crafted in a cauldron by adding 1 or 2 quartz of any color and 2 whale blubber, producing 2 hair dye. The dye’s color is a mix between the colors of the quartz used in the dye. Using two quartz isn’t the only way to reach a mixed hue, however. Quartz made by cooking other quartz colors can also be used in hair dyes. This allows the player to make very specific hues.
Another way to create hair dyes is through combining existing hair dyes in the cauldron’s potion combination menu. By brewing 2 hair dyes together, a new hair dye will be created with the average of the two dyes’ colors. This way, even if the player messes up a hair dye, they haven’t wasted all the quartz.
Hair dyes can also be bought both at tailors and dyers. Tailors will sell them at high prices[1] and will be limited to only 3 basic colors[2] each restock. Dyers will sell them at somewhat lower prices[3], will be limited to up to 7 basic colors and 3 combined colors[4]. This is mainly to let new players see the feature and possibly even access it later on, to get an idea of what’s possible.
Upon using a hair dye, the player will be given an option on whether they want to use it on primary or secondary hair. Upon usage, the hair dye is used up and the chosen hair’s color is overriden completely, meaning its original color, color gained from blood disease, or color from previous hair dye has no effect. Before applying the dye, the player will get a preview on how their new hair will look like.
By combining 1 soap and 2 whale blubber in a cauldron, the player can create 2 cleansing shampoo. By using a cleansing shampoo, the player will be given an option on whether to use it on primary or secondary hair. Upon usage, the shampoo is used up and the chosen hair’s color is reverted to its base color, or color produced by blood disease.
Cleansing shampoo can also be bought at any tailor for 50 drachma.
