The issue

A part of the Full Release update was the addition of many different hues of more “realistic” hair colors, with a wider selection of brown, black, blonde and other “natural” hues. This change delighted a part of the community who, up until that point, was limited to only certain hues, unable to get the ones they desired.
This, however, came at the cost of all the more vibrant hair colors, irritating a different part of the community. Many fun colors were lost to make space for more natural ones. And while it remains unknown why the realistic colors couldn’t have been added on top of the former colors, it remains a fact that, while one side of the community got the colors they wanted to play with, another side lost it entirely.
And for a world of magic, where most of the world is covered in a never-ending storm, where people can turn into pure flame, crystal or another element, where dragons and Greek gods exist, this doesn’t really make sense. Why is a human who stole others’ magics and curses, raised dead and shattered the world acceptable, but pink hair is too unrealistic?

These colors would make a comeback in the form of a side effect of blood diseases. However, for many, this tradeoff is downright horrible. With how useless blood diseases have proven, very few people are willing to trade 30% of their hp for a vanity change.

Another addition in Full Release was quartz, giving weapon users the ability to change their aura color. Quartz, however, remains useful to them alone, and to the remaining builds remains just feature bloat.

Hair dyes

Hair dyes are a new type of “potion” that would allow the players to permanently dye their hair any color they want, overriding blood disease.

Hair dyes themselves would be crafted in a cauldron by adding 1 or 2 quartz of any color and 2 whale blubber, producing 2 hair dye. The dye’s color is a mix between the colors of the quartz used in the dye. Using two quartz isn’t the only way to reach a mixed hue, however. Quartz made by cooking other quartz colors can also be used in hair dyes. This allows the player to make very specific hues.
Another way to create hair dyes is through combining existing hair dyes in the cauldron’s potion combination menu. By brewing 2 hair dyes together, a new hair dye will be created with the average of the two dyes’ colors. This way, even if the player messes up a hair dye, they haven’t wasted all the quartz.
Hair dyes can also be bought both at tailors and dyers. Tailors will sell them at high prices[1] and will be limited to only 3 basic colors[2] each restock. Dyers will sell them at somewhat lower prices[3], will be limited to up to 7 basic colors and 3 combined colors[4]. This is mainly to let new players see the feature and possibly even access it later on, to get an idea of what’s possible.

Upon using a hair dye, the player will be given an option on whether they want to use it on primary or secondary hair. Upon usage, the hair dye is used up and the chosen hair’s color is overriden completely, meaning its original color, color gained from blood disease, or color from previous hair dye has no effect. Before applying the dye, the player will get a preview on how their new hair will look like.

By combining 1 soap and 2 whale blubber in a cauldron, the player can create 2 cleansing shampoo. By using a cleansing shampoo, the player will be given an option on whether to use it on primary or secondary hair. Upon usage, the shampoo is used up and the chosen hair’s color is reverted to its base color, or color produced by blood disease.
Cleansing shampoo can also be bought at any tailor for 50 drachma.

  2. dyes made with 1 naturally occuring quartz ↩︎

  3. ~2000 for basic colors, ~5000 for combined colors ↩︎

  4. dyes made with 2 different naturally occuring quartz, mixing their colors ↩︎

i miss my more vibrant hair pre full release
genuinely i never understood vetex’s thoughtspace because immersion/realism doesnt make sense when the world has… whats uh.. Magic.gods.monsters.ghosts.mythologies.teleporting swordsmen
why remove the old ones why not just add the new ones alongside the old ones
anyways yes pleaseeeeeeeeeeee

my cosplay went from crimson red hair to some stupid dark red so yes this is needed

and if we needed ANY other reason for this to exist then uh
iris literally has crimson red hair still

honestly just adding the fun colors back to the menu would be better but i wouldnt mind dyes existing

Yeah I guess this would be a nice QOL update (or just make Vetex add the old hair colors back which is unlikely)

I decided to suggest hair dyes instead because, since there was a pretty large demand for vetex to just add new colors on top of the old ones, it’s reasonable to assume there must be some sort of limitation to their number
I also chose dyes as, with how much vetex is steering into “realism” and “immersion” recently, I think letting the player craft an item to die their hair is pretty “realistic” and “immersive”, since figuring out how to crush things and mix them with other things to leave color on something is one of humanity’s oldest skills

or vetex could just add a color wheel into the menu if you dont want any of the natural pre-set hair colors and then boom everyones happy

yeah fair enough, this is like the equivalent of roblox adding an ai feature to please investors

yes please
either this or just give us a goddamn color wheel

not a bad idea but the best idea would still be to just give us an RGB colour wheel to pick hair colour from

this wouldn’t mean that the preset colours need to go, either. they could stay while also having the wheel. everyone wins

I’m not saying RGB wheel isn’t the ideal solution, but unless vetex is actually a caveman[1], I assume the idea was brought up and rejected for whatever reason
I’m simply trying to compromise based on assumptions on why the simpler solution couldn’t be achieved

fair enough, i really cannot stress how much better a colour wheel would be for all parties involved

i would say this setting is the best option (except for the annoyance of crushing quartz together, but whatever, you only have to do it once)

i know people like me have a hard time using a color wheel to find realistic hair colors, and a color wheel would also be unacceptable for vetex bc this would kinda massively raise the amt of people in game using bright saturated colors as hair, which is kind of immersion breaking (yes, even though it’s a magic game it’s kinda weird if all the npcs have normal hair colors but the players don’t, and also you don’t expect natural hair to be lime green). with hair dye being locked to dark sea, you could still make cosplays, but you’d have to go out of your way and the majority of players would still have normal hair colors

dont jinx it, vetex is going to do some bullshit like “whenever you get the soaked status effect, the dye will wash out”

or those Vibrant hair colors became a gamepasses if vetex is somehow a bit greedy like what he did when he added magic change product that cost 2,000 Robux

also was pretty pissed off when the vibrant blonde hair color is removed

That’s one intolerable solution

These things will require a fix of their own.

That won’t really work irl, but for the game, that’ll do.

Yall be selling hair dyes for the same prices as ketches? I know that contain items from an evil scary Dark Sea, but still, that feels like a scam. And we don’t factor in how worthless 3k Drachma is nowadays!

Honestly, more of these small interactions should be in the game.

only comment is that buying dyes from stores should be 50% cheaper than what you put down, otherwise literally the best solution for not having said colours in default selection.

queen veronica literally has purple hair, so why can’t we have pink??

In the past, vibrant pigments were expensive as shit, so that checks. Besides, the purpose of these is mainly “baby’s first hair color customization”, something to show the player what they can do with their hair. They’re there to get players interested in making hair dyes, but exorbitantly priced so that they’re also encouraged to try crafting some of their own and get more unique colors.

True, but for a price of your very own, not even rented ship? For purple, that might be believable.

idk what to write
