if you live under a rock a new roblox game came out called Rogueblox, its another permadeath open world RPG taking inspiration from Rogue Lineage and Deepwoken but its main source is Rogue Lineage because of its class system. its hard to say if its easier or harder than Rogue Lineage which in my opinion was definitely the most difficult game to learn and play before this, I would go as far as saying it was always harder than Deepwoken. but Rogueblox becomes easier and more fun to play it if you have friends who are willing to put themselves through the torture of this game. and just for honorable mentions, this game was actually a thing back then in 2019 but it wasnt as popular and it was just seen as another cheap rogue lineage knock off.
I can see why permadeath games have their appeal. Although, eventually these types of games just get overtaken by sweats with a lot of free time. Something I don’t really have to be dedicating to a permadeath game.
they buffed lurker rates to induce survival of the fittest to see how hard their player rate tanks in a attempt to force mfs to fight for their lives for a singular super codex (easier to grind basic codexs to progress)
the parry timing and dodge timings are really strange. if you press the key as soon as the flash you’ll get guard broken, but if you press the key right as it’s coming out you’ll just take the hit. so idrk and ive also not really played rogue lineage
Every permadeath game on the platform includes both forced PvP and incentives for killing players. Combined with the fact that there is rarely a reason to go after stronger players and suddenly it’s a miserable experience where you can’t trust anyone
Rogue Lineage clones are abominable hellspawns of game design contradictions, serving only to increase their lord’s power through an everflowing cycle of violence, toxicity, and general idiocy.
To dare imply that they can be good games is the same as thinking that organised crime can be good to society.
what the fuck? okay guys, you already know what to do, so get to it.
okay look i wouldn’t go so far as to compare them to organized crime, but yes rogue lineage and its clones have been a poison to roblox rpgs causing half of them to be ‘hardcore’ slop. essentially these games are like having a dungeon master in dnd that doesn’t actually care about the players having fun, but more so creating hardships for their characters to go through
persisting, even when the game clearly doesn’t want you to win, is still fun in a way. i did have some dumb cheap fun with this game when i got up to shenanigans like fighting with a guy and accidentally dropping a stalactite on his head, or trying to save a bunny and ending up having to fight a viper for my life. but, when it comes to it in a few weeks and progression will become hell because of the community, i just don’t think playing this game will be worth it
Without mentioning the player-induced paranoia, no, they still aren’t and cannot be good games. Trial&error gameplay with mechanics that strictly forbids trial&error through unreasonable punishments is stupid. It’d be fine if what you lost was something that was easy to get, like how each of your runs in roguelikes are normally pretty fast, but these aren’t.
