Prelude
In the official lore, Hecate is depicted as goddess of magic, who has a foresight and ability to give magic to anyone. And, in same lore, she was the one who held magic from humans, and got first weakend and then defeated by Prometheus, allowing him to take authority over magic.
But…How accurate is it to the greek mythology?
Mythology
Hecate is one of those not so well documented gods, as she varies in versions from time to time. She may be a young woman, an ugly hag, 3 faced woman, a humanoid with 3 heads of different animals, but lates take one and i think most popular interpretation right after 3 headed Hecate - a woman holding twin torches.
Hecate is the titan, a daughter of Perses (Titan god of destruction) and Asteria (Titan goddess of falling stars), who betrayed her kind in Titanomachy [important note, just imagine titans and olympians being different generates of gods, they are same, but just different in time period].
She played a pretty important, even if not widley role in the war, as she was one of the strongest members. So strong, in fact, that by the end of the war, all olympian gods including Zeus respected her so much, that they allowed her to become one of them (all while other traitor titans were just spared).
She was given domain over skies, earth and waters (not same as controlling or being embodiment of, but still), all on top of her magical abilities. Later down the line of history she was given few more things that were associated with. She was thought to help travellers and guide them, she was thought to be a goddess of night and even underground, as she had close connections with Hades through Persephone (Hecate, was the only god who helped Demeter locate her daughter, and while Zeus with Hades were comming to a compromise, she helped Persephone adapt to the Undead world.)
Our goat Hecate was also considered one of the kindest gods since she adopted cursed Queen of Trojan and witch Gale. She devoted herself to helping others, remaining virgin and unmarried (this is how some sources describe her, im not joking) in order to put others need above her own.
Oh, and remember the depiction of her having 3 heads? Yeah, so, those heads apperently means that she can see past, present and future.
So as a conclusion.
Hecate was the only titan so powerful, that all olympian gods respected her and made her their own. Her authority, in reality, spans not just over magic, but Night, Travell/Crossroads and undead/ghosts. She was kind to those in need. And for offerings she would take garlic, cheese, eggs, not a lot basicly (yes, i know about the dogs, we dont talk about the dogs).
So Hecate was true goat.
But what do we have in AO?
Hecate is said to have control over magic and having a foresight. Cool! But what about crossroads, night and undead? Eh, lets say Vetex didn’t want to make Hecate overpowered!
Okay, lets say, theoretically. That Unknown Entity somehow gave powerup to Prometheus to rival olympians, but are you telling me, that he can solo Hecate, a titan who was feared/respected by most olympians??? Sure, maybe it was like Hecate was de-buffed and Prometheus was buffed, so he managed to take her down.
But are you telling me that it took ANYONE to notice HECATE, A BELOVED GODDDES, was gone for 112 years!?
Like, to make you understand better. In some tales it is said that Hecate was the one who gave Kronos rock instead of Zeus, so bound between the 2 should be pretty stong, which it is even outside that specific story. She’s general respected and sometimes feared. So why would Zeus not be like “Wait, they killed Hecate? What in the Chaos’ name can overpower her???” and go on high alert
SHE DID NOT DESERVE TO BE KILLED BY PLOT ARMOR, SHE DID NOTHING BAD!
MY GOAT HECATE GOT HIT BY PROMETHEUS PLOT ARMOR! AND I DEMAND JUSTICE FOR HECATE!
She had enough bullshit with Prometheus Plot Armor that instead of going into rebirth cycle, she just killed herself for good by shattering her soul into shards
