I assume this is a 1-2 lane street, so I presume it wouldnt be too wide. If the sign can be carried and picked up easily, just run across the road and grab it before running back. If the road isnt highly used, at least during night, then just wait until night and grab it quickly. If the sign something most people will ignore or just not care about / like it being removed, then no one will report it missing or bat an eye.
if the sign isn’t being used for anything, I doubt anyone would bother getting you in that much trouble. You could argue in theory that there is no point of it being there and that drivers could get distracted by the sign itself, making a danger and it having a valid cause to be removed. Try and get it removed first on grounds of that, if that doesn’t work just do it yourself and argue that it’s a danger if you do get caught.
However, you could just steal it and you’d be fine if didn’t caught. I doubt that the police would try and find it, especially with how useless this sign sounds. You’ll probably get some days in jail or a decently hefty fine, but it depends place to place. Just don’t show it off in a space where people can see it easily from outside your house and you’ll be golden as long as you don’t get caught in the act.
Other factors really include the signs size and the location. If it’s in one of those roads where there isn’t really any building next to it, then you’ll be fine, but if it’s in a residential area, keep an eye out. The location also factors into where you can put your car, as it would be shady if it was parked on the side of the road in the middle of a non-residential area, whilst you’d probably look normal if it was in a neighborhood.
Make sure there are no traffic cameras and try to make the vehicle you are using looks as normal as possible. Trying to make it look discrete just draws attention, just make it look like a normal car. Wear normal clothes too, wearing something that makes you look like you’re hiding who you are is going to draw attention.
tl;dr, act normal, do it at a time where no one drives, this shit depends on the location, and punishment is somewhat harsh, but you could argue your way out out of it and its not like the police are going to actively look for it.
