Proposal
Add lore about the existence of a high society for mages from lost and ancient magic families.
Reasoning
“Magic is a power that only those lucky enough to be born with it can possess”.
If you consider the fact that not all humans possess the ability to wield magic, mages in the AO universe must look like superior beings compared to normal humans.
And even among mages, “experienced mages found shards of Hecate’s soul, and were able to use their power to create enhanced forms of their magic - a process known as “mutating” to create “lost magics”. These mages passed down the ability to learn these created lost magic through their bloodline.
Some mages even found multiple Hecate Shards, allowing them to mutate a magic even further to increase its strength more. These magics are known as Ancient Magics, or advanced mutations.” (taken from the AO lore doc).
Therefore:
Magic users (rare) –> Lost Magic users (rarer) –> Ancient magic users (rarest). Taking into account that AO takes place in the ‘WAR seas’, it is an absolute breeding ground for elitism.
For example, lesser lost magics. The lore doc says that lesser lost magics came about because of the passage of time: “Over many centuries, some of the oldest lost magics such as acid, poison, and sand became more common”.
I feel that this could be enhanced with more lore about how the constant conflict between the magic bloodlines led to the weaker lost magic wielders being weeded out. And the lesser lost magic wielders seen today are descendants of fallen bloodlines who fell from power and out of desperation to preserve their bloodline’s magics, had to integrate with the common magic users.
Implementation
Since this is a lore suggestion, I am not really suggesting an addition of physical characters, rather something like dialogue from npcs about these ancient magic families. I’m also not necessarily saying they should be involved in the story or aligned with kingdoms, just more like entities that exist in the background but just the mention of them makes people shudder in fear. That sort of thing.
Rationale
Honestly I feel that the setting of the AO universe gives such a good opportunity to focus on themes like social class. Yes, I know this is a roblox game not a piece of fine literature but it’s still a story game. Themes like this add depth to the story and a sense of realism (Give people power and they will claim themselves to be superior). Besides, Vetex wants to be a writer and this game is like an experience for him to take that step forward. (Ik Vetex doesn’t and probably won’t be reading my suggestion).
