Hot take about AO's player stats

class beef would mostly disappear if we werent restricted into our classes & could put points in however we wanted.
Like for example, i have issues with strength weapons as a concept since they’re limited to warlord & savant but give them nearly the same amount of content as warrior, but like. if people could just invest exactly 100 strength to get access to all strength weapon skills on an otherwise all-weapons build, i would be perfectly fine with it.
Instead we’re stuck with limitations for hybrids that make anything not openly broken completely worthless in comparison to both full builds and savants.

Surely, if vetex’s intention is to canonically make our character able to use all 4 stats, then he shouldn’t be restricting us for putting too much in one stat.

I dont really want more cringy metamancing with stats, like mages getting essentially access to a third of available weapon skills just from spending like 50 points on weapons.

Strength weapons are an anomaly and shouldn’t be used as a basis for anything, they have been a constant source of problems.
Besides, I don’t see how warrior being able to waste 100 on strength to have access to them is supposed to be a “fix” to anything, it doesn’t change anything about how warlords use them. Warriors really don’t need strength weapons regardless.

People would just go from beefing with classes specifically to beefing with stat investments (also the inevitable minmax hell as waping mentioned)

I actually had a similar idea in the public enemy thread, which also just straight up removes awakenings since that is apparently only for gameplay purposes despite vetex also making stuff as anti fun features???

and of course the problems that would become apparent very quickly

mainly stuff like warlordvant in it’s prime showing up again given the level cap gets high enough

Allowing a warlord like this to fly freely… among other absurd stat combinations

balancing nightmare :sob:

but honestly, it’s not like removing build allocation limits would fix a thing, most AO servers/forums are toxic as hell regardless

so like. on waping’s statement here, warrior could 100% use Some strength weapons, especially considering how hard they lean to size-based gameplay. not only that but we’d also get access to colossal weapon skills (specifically colossal cleave rn), AND combinations of skills that are otherwise impossible (devastate & sparrow thrust on the same weapon for example). Warlord-leaning warrior definitely has uses (without even considering the FS moves this would give a character).
Plus, there is still content for (nearly) every class currently that requires near-maximum investment. Ray and aftershock, for instance, both require 340 in their stat. at lv 175, neither mage nor beserker could afford to drop points into anything unless they wanted to forsake those skills. That doesn’t necessarily mean that it would be a bad idea to put 50pts in weapons, or 40 in spirit for slightly more versatility, though.
On the metamancing front, it’s not exactly metamancing if the average build is “little bit of this, little bit of that” anyway. i feel it’s up to the players to decide what they’re comfortable building with, even if that does result in some stronger builds coming along “because it’s good”.

And I am still pissed that colossal cleave is a far easier to obtain skill than fury of the sea, with more customisation due to the different weapons you can use it on, and it’s an attack that can be used by warlords with the current level cap.

0/5 stars, worst balancing ever!!! (But honestly I just wish that warrior could stand out from hybrid classes that use weapons)

the only good thing abt this is how it nerfs the early game for savants (they would basically be stuck with only a single imbue option till a level cap that is not yet available)

but the late game would end up being an actual nightmare (even if they would be stuck with skills that are comparatively early game, just cause they would be able to stack absolutely everything onto anything)

I think the correct course of option is to remove stat builds entirely and let people use all items like AA again

I disagree.
Every class should have a gimmick, strength weapons are the only one that exist in a meaningful way right now.
Arcanium weapons for conjurors will also exist but lets be real, they do not fill the gap yet.

When arcanium weapons have their full functionality, if conjurors aren’t using them as their baseline, something has been done wrong.

Strength weapons are a constant source of problems because warlords are the only ones that have their gimmick, literally every other class is currently deprived of that.

Being forced to use magic or else I’m at a disadvantage, yeah I’d lowkey off myself at that point

you already are at this point anyway, you know how it is with the magic agenda

Every day makes me wish I could punch a bteam member (or v-man for designing combat around magic)

at this point just become a warlord :face_with_bags_under_eyes:

naw bc i’d get more skills with 250wp, esp on more speed-focused weapons like sinbane
