How do I land crashes or rushes

ok so guys how do I even land crashes or rushes, everytime i aim my crash it just goes by the person and not to them and my rushes are SUPER slow and i don’t have time to land them which is pretty annoying, and as a lightning warlock if i manage to land any of those 2 i’ll have a big advantage in a fight but I CAN’T LAND ANY OF THE 2
