I might just be really dumb, but I can not figure out how to move items from my inventory to my hotbar. I have starved to death multiple times from not having food in my hotbar. Please someone tell me how to. Also why are all the discord chats closed?

Like your backpack. Open it up using the ` or ~ key, whichever icon shows up for the two (it should be directly left of your numbers above your letters on your keyboard).
After that you click on one, hold it, and drag it to the desired location in your hotbar.
