I am very confused on how you u can deal with this ability. From what I’ve seen, it stuns, does around 1k damage, has good clash, and a stupid big hotbox. Am I missing a fundamental flaw against it? Am I missing something?

I fought a mage who used Surge on my under geared Warrior file, just run away or quickly dispatch them with a few hits if your sure you won’t get hit much, I used Mirrored River since it travels enough distance for me to get away from surge while attacking followed up by Twin Crescents for more damage. (Do note that when using Surge they receive reduced damage)
Also blocking or parrying will not favor you most of the times the mage would just dash away and use beam + blast from a distance enhancing their zoner style or just continue using surge and still deal enough damage if they’re a power oriented build.
Just run honestly it only deals like 50-80 damage when trying to dash away.

Oh my goodness I forgot one vital part of that fight, there’s literally no need for you to do all what I stated earlier I’m so sorry lol.
The actual counter is: grab attacks, I forgot I used GW staff and kept spamming knocking blitz whenever he used surge.
it only stuns for the first 5 hits now so it should be at least slightly manageable

do grabs work on surge?
Well right now grabs are bugged in pvp in a party so I haven’t had a chance to test this. However, I’ll ask a friend to let me test later when I can get on.
Yes, grabs are the ultimate counter to surge, which is why you want to get TF away from mages when they have grab immunity

no, what their talking about is grab immunity you get after being grabbed (yknow, the 10~ seconds you get where you cannot be grabbed)

Ironically surge is getting nerfed soon, so I guess I get my wish
where did you read surge is getting nerfed?
I just get away from the person using it and punish them with placed explosions or blasts.
