How do you overcome writer's block?

I’ve been experiencing writer’s block for a long time now, but I still really want to get back into writing. I can barely write 100-200 words at most before giving up.

How do you get rid of or at least overcome writer’s block? I’d like to know what the other writers in this community do.

Take a few days off, sit down with nothing else to do, and nothing else open on your PC (barring music) and make yourself write just a bit.

Waiting for “inspiration” doesn’t really work in my experience. But you also will burn out if you’re constantly stressing over writing. Take a breather, get your head off it for a bit, then just do it.

Also, put some variety into what you do. The single easiest way to burn out for any artistic medium is to constantly be doing the same thing. This is especially true for longer projects. Take some breaks into a shorter, burst-of-the-moment things.

I should clarify: I’m not good at being consistent either—not at all. If anything, I’m probably one of the least proactive artists here. So take every word I say with a side of salt.

I’m definitely most guilty of this :sob:

Thank you for the advice, it sounds a lot more helpful than what I’ve been doing.

Touching grass works effectively.

I touch grass everyday which means I have infinite writing ideas

write it, then just leave it alone until you feel like writing again (at least that’s what I’m doing)

I touch grass more times than I’d like everyday :frowning:

Then write what you see

I’m sure something will work. Nature is usually a good start for getting ideas.

Most of the times it’s just “just write whatever and adjust them later” so you can pop up an idea or two.

You could always try psychography, it’s a method referred as “automatic writing” where you simply write as you think (I think lol)

I do that when in school, quite fun especially if I wanna explore how good I understand my world building/character/general writing skills.

read interesting books, pick out historical ones, they worked best for me and actually cured my art block, or just do some dazzle and draw and you’ll get and idea!

Here’s my tip. Go do something else. For an hour? A week? Two months? (I’m guilty of that last one). Whether it’s writing something different, just experimenting, or even better something completely different, you probably need a break from it.

So I’m working on a book series right now - six chapters into the first book and I’m already burned out. My advice would be don’t tell yourself you’re going to continue, because I keep doing that and guess what? Go check my Wattpad, there’s still only six chapters.

What I would suggest is if you have any friends who are into writing, talking with them about it can be a bit motivational. If you don’t, then I’m sure any advice that has been given here can cover that.

Hope you get over it soon.

Btw try three lol (I am sh*t)

take your mind off of things
wait a month or two
and then just start writing

now the same problem for me because of

  1. can’t really find somewhere to start
  2. school killed off what little free time
so uh the only real solution I can find to this is to write during school or to completely remove smth that I do(such as playing from 2 hours a day to idk like 10-20 minutes)
so I guess after the halloween event I’ll pretty much just contemplate what would be a good backstory for my oc

I just wait for inspiration to hit me and proceed to finish my story. So, you could actively seek inspiration. Maybe read some books or watch a movie. Don’t be afraid to take inspiration.
