How does notoriety even work?

so I was trying to farm notoriety ships because I hate the gravy , and I came up with the genius idea to make a torture chamber on harvest island to easily kill the gravy guys while they’re stuck in the whirlpool.

so I got some notoriety and started waiting.

and then just nothing happened.

after resetting the notoriety it kept saying that the gravy couldn’t find me even though I got the notoriety while I was on harvest island

then I tried again and now it did say that there was a ship inbound but just none appeared?

how the frick do notoriety ship spawns even work? this only fuels my hatred for the gnavy even more. I must torture blue guys for my sanity please

i think you have to buy something from an npc or repair your ship with a shipwright for the navy to know your location but sometimes it doesnt work or spawn because it just doesnt okay

I tried buying like 100 cannonballs from my shipwright and nothing happened :<

Notoriety ships can’t spawn when you’re on Mount Othrys, in the Dark Sea, in any assassin base, or on a claimed island
For Mount Othrys and the Dark Sea, it’s probably to prevent ships from taking up memory space if they can’t reach you
Assassin bases just make sense in lore; it’s hidden away from the Gravy
And I guess claimed islands just so that clan battles over islands aren’t disrupted by annoying gravy npcs

Incorrect, I can confirm they spawn at Assassin bases and Claimed Islands

At 1-2 notoriety gravy can locate you only on town islands (excluding claimed islands and Assassin bases, if you are on one of these the game will give you notification that you can’t be located)
At 3+ notoriety they will locate wherever you are at the moment.

So either you had too low notoriety, or gravy was bugged in some way, or maybe navy influence on the server was too low and therefore they couldn’t spawn.

Too low influence option seems to be unlikely, so the culprit might be too low notoriety or some kind of bug.

they definetly can’t find you on claimed islands
it gives you the navy cant find you alert

oh yeahh, it did only start saying that the ships were inbound after I went to get 5 star notoriety.
so I guess it’s a bug since none actually appeared.

so, an update.
with 5 star notoriety it worked fairly well, and got consistent ship spawns for maybe 10-20 minutes

but then they just stopped spawning. I tried waiting for a bit longer, but still none appeared.
is there like a built in thingy that says that only so many ships can be sent to one player on one island? maybe there can be only so many notoriety ships in a server at a time, since there were quite a few other people with negative renown.

if anyone knows any more, please tell me :3
