How does one get “good” at PvP?

Genuine question. I just can’t.

so its been like… 300 hours? My aim has become like- tolerable I guess, but there are problems that practice cannot fix.

  • I have the eyesight and situational awareness of a mole.
  • I cannot read nor predict.
  • I am too impulsive and therefore cannot use my braincells.
  • I cannot adapt.
  • I cannot do anything.

optional paragraphs idk
I got into PvP with randoms at about 250 hours in, at the time I’d only been fighting friends. I wanted to rapid practice different people to learn to adapt to different playstyles so I can prove to my friends that I exist.

It did not work. I still suck, and I am now getting worse every single match I play, Elysium or not. And I still get ignored because I am worth nothing in-game nor in real life (my only talent is getting ok grades)

I thought AO PvP would be the one thing I would finally get good at, guess not ig.

dont

do

dont, do

do

do

hope this help!

ew wtf what is this self loathing
pvp will make ur ego bigger but clearly you need therapy instead

if you want to get good at pvp, first fix ur build cause that’s 80% of it
then go do bounty hunting, much more fun than 1v1s (and dont fight no pks players)
after that look for player whoare way better than you at pvp and start grinding out 1v1s, if you’re not getting cooked you’re not learning

i have a pvp server for that last step, here ya go

a little brainrotted but what did u expect

anyway ( ps: ive only played mage and paladin aka magic-focused class, i was a warlock for sometimes but have forgotten most of it by now )

get a decent pc and wifi, you cannot pvp for the love god without those due to how fast paced combat can get in this game ( unless you’re fighting people at low-medium-ish skill range, which should be okay )

try to get to high ground ( or just t jump before attacking, and keep attacking while you’re in the air since a lot of people seems pretty damn bad at aiming people while they;re in the air compared to when they’re on the ground, it also help you aim better too )

depending on your build, if you’re glass cannon then just do the above and dash away to regen energy ( you can regen energy while falling mid air ). If your magic is something like earth, metal, poison, ash or anything that create a bunch of dust/“smokescreen” then its even more useful since you’ll able to have even more time to regen energy ( unless they’re using revealing, tho i doubt it since they would probably use something to boost their dmg instead )

otherwise its probably better to learn how to block/parry and punish them. Trading blows is an option if you think you can outdamage/tank them, tho it usually only works if they fight in close/medium range from what ive seen

idrk how to play tank tbh since they arent really a very viable option rn in both pvp and pve imo, some meta mages can deal 400-600 ( not counting dot ) in one hit so trying to tank them is just a bad idea, and you lack the dmg to do meaningful dmg to them

if potion is allowed, bleeding is probably your best friend since bone ( teeth? i dont remeber whats used to make them tbh ) since it sygnerizes with quite a lot of thing and can help if your magic/fs deal low-medium dmg

try to, learn how to stay calm because throwing everything out and hope it works isnt a very good idea ( unless you;re a metal mage with 500 size then yeah, it works most of the time actually )

add my discord fridgeuchiha i host training session every week or so

whats your build? maybe you could focus on that ‘aspect’
mages are long range
warriors are medium range
beserkers are close range
if youre a combination of that, do that
dont get into cqc when youre a mage, get distance and strike from afar
use twin crescents for decent damage or mirrored river for mobility (or if youre a warlord)
get in close with crash, follow up with a rushdown aimed at the ground and follow up with a smash

and of course, if youre a savant…

i think you should focus on improving this, when fighting, dont only focus on the enemy, also focus on the surrounding, which spot is good for hiding behind because that obstacle has high health? are there any holes you shouldnt fall into because the enemy’s build synergises well with getting their opponement trapped?

first time? honestly, i dont know it either, i get it that you can figure out the enemy’s patterns mid-battle, but at the first strike? thats impossible for me (and you)

dont spam every single attack without having good resistance/attack speed, chances are people are just going to dodge, and with your situational awareness, make an attack on you while youre still end-lagging

how do i know this? from experience
…from NPC’s such as Asgore Argos and Calvus

look at what build the other has, turn on the attack messages, you can deduct alot from just the names of the attacks

how about we pvp against eachother?
I’m not good at pvp (200 hours, 8 kills in total and 100% of them were either volunteer kills, low levels trying to get my friend’s renown or accidental)

I do this! I simply do not find 1v1ing others worse than me fun at all-

And for clarification for the others (forums keeps breaking for me lol), I am a plasma/poison mage, and an atkspd user with a lot of the power stat.

Infact, most of your problems can be fixed through practice. I know this won’t apply to everyone but when I first bough Deepwoken, the difficulty, the mechanics and the sheer appearance of the monsters was appalling. But little by little, through playing the game and practicing I pretty much can face any challenge the game impose on me. It’s also the same situation in League but it took me a year to learn the game so …:fr:

Tl;dr In most games, often time it’s your own fear of the unknown that hinders you.

Don’t. This kind of thinking has dragged many down the hole and I’m one of its victim. As with all thing, you’re not expected to be exceptional at the start. And you’re not expected to be good at a lego game PvP, never.

Midway through typing this paragraph I one up-ed a Metal Leg Lock while using Savant in ship combat so it’s kinda funny

a lot of people understate the imporatnce of having good armor and good ping. it completely changes the way you play the game, so make sure you do the following before considering PvP:

  1. Make sure that you have good armor.
Depending on your build, it can be the reason why you win or lose fights. It is the best way to improve your playing without actually having to fight anyone.
  2. Make sure that you are playing in good ping.
Something a lot of players will realize is that they cannot play in high ping. It really is a game changer when you put yourself in a region that is closer to home, as it allows you to react to things and parry/block much better.

If you would be willing to, you can add me on disc and I can teach you what I know about PvP

As for this… I uh, yeah that one is a me problem.

I also PvP because it is quite fun sometimes, not only because of my issues with myself !!

no its my goddamn ping /j

idk what to do about this, I am south Asian but I somehow get worse ping in AS and IN servers than EU servers so there is not much I can do about it!!

Yes it is. You’re pvping for fun, so keep it at that. If you’re a SG or Portland US player I’d be happy to spar with you and maybe give a few advices.

Real

Well, I’m also slowly learning PvP by asking for 1 vs 1 to those players on the leaderboard. (Tyrants mostly since Warlord of The Seas will just hunt you, fr fr).

Also get a good pc and don’t cast spells if not needed. This wad what I learned since casting unnecessary spell will just let your endlag be abused. Also only cast spell once halfway certain that you will hit the enemy.

Get a good build and customized every slot for your spell. For example if you have sand magic then customize its explosion to shockwave, placed, and 5x amount to blind enemy for 5 seconds.

There really is nothing that can help if you are innately very very bad at it.

shhhhhh slides you 5 galleons nobody needs to know that

Know what? :mariomug:

then the problem may be in your internet connection. I’d always try to play in singapore if i was you tho

I dont think it’s the only problem, it feels wrong to blame my inadequacies on external stuff.

;))

the best way to learn pvp is to pvp more
it really is that simple, but don’t expect to be some tournament winning prodigy so fast
