How many islands will the finished Nimbus Sea have?

Alright, let’s start with what we know, and compare Nimbus to Bronze.

The Bronze Sea currently has 33 islands, including sky islands but not including the Pelion Rift. Add in the 5 islands coming in Empires, and it’s up to 38. And we know it will also be getting a volcano island, Fort Castrum, an island northeast of the Jaws for Hallbjorn to spawn on, and a Kingdom Island.

This means the Bronze Sea will have at least 42 islands. That’s a crazy number! That’s more islands than Arcane Adventures ever had in all three of its seas combined. So if Bronze has that many, we can assume Nimbus will be similar, right? Not necessarily, we also need to factor in how much space the seas themselves have.

As you can see here, the Nimbus Sea is significantly larger, about twice as much. So does this mean Nimbus will have twice as many islands too? Well, it could, but the answer is again “not necessarily.” If Vetex wanted more islands, he could just fit more in the sky, especially since this is the Nimbus Sea and people have been expecting to get a lot of sky islands. This doesn’t seem like a valid reason to drastically enlarge the ocean. There are other valid reasons he may have done this, however:

  • It could be because he wants the Nimbus Sea’s islands to be, on average, much bigger than the Bronze Sea’s, and so he needs more room to do that.
  • Or, what I think is probably the case, is that Vetex wants the islands to be significantly more spaced out than in Bronze. This is to adjust for the fact that we have much faster ships now. If he kept the distance between islands roughly the same for all 6 seas, while our ship kept getting better and better, we could probably go between islands in no time flat. There would hardly be any sailing.

I do think the Nimbus Sea will probably have more islands than Bronze, but not by a huge amount. A lot of them might also be in the sky. Vetex said he wants to add PvE skyship combat, and there might even be skyships that we can save and customize in the shipyard menu, so that clues us in to the fact that Nimbus will probably have a lot of sky islands, or at least a more involved sky area.

With the extra sky islands, and islands on average being bigger now thanks to builders, there’s no need to give the ocean even more islands than Bronze. The extra space is probably so that the gap between islands can be wider, accounting for fast ships like Brigs.

Anyway, what do you think? For everyone’s convenience I’ll leave a poll, but I would prefer a reply to the topic with more detailed opinions.

THIRTY THREE ISLANDS?!

It feels like… maybe twelve???

the thing is, it IS 33 islands it just, doesnt feel like that, like only 6 of them I have a reason to go to/ go to regularly (palo town, silverhold, ravenna, sometimes cerunno if Im bored, stepstones/sky islands sometimes, and like I guess sailors lodge)
when was the last time youve been to darkpine isle, surely not recently, goso jungle? nope Ive been there like 4 times over the course of 1 1/2 years

I think itll be a similar amount of islands overall but itll have less sea islands and more sky islands

The huge difference in size could be due to a number of factors I think:

  • It could be what you said, where islands in nimbus are larger than average compared to the bronze sea
  • It could also be because this sea has two kingdoms instead of one, granted of course one of them is in the sky but vetex probably doesnt want them to be too close on the map
  • Or perhaps its because the story is on a much grander scale in the nimbus sea and so a larger area is needed because of that
  • Maybe its just cuz the bronze sea is essentially the tutorial sea, with likely the smallest kingdom island (Ravenna), weakest enemies and relatively tame story compared to whats gonna happen next

Blasted rock, Arkaus Keep, Goso, Darkpine, Mango, that one island Edward was on, Thorin’s Refuge (kinda)…

Yeah, I see what you mean.

yeah ive been there once (also not saying these islands that I never go to arent cool or anything, I like the designs of all the islands in the bronze sea, its just funny how little you end up going to them)

Discover the island, pick up treasure, solve the chart, then leave and never come back.

To be fair at least with this update people will be more compelled to revisit these currently useless islands to build on them

I think clan update is going to help with the island “replayability” problem, atleast with the ones you can claim

Hopefully…

Honestly, I may not know for a while, as I’m not sure I’ll have time to play much AO.

I go there semi-frequently, I need my insanity pies

honestly doesn’t make sense to have so many islands in the bronze sea.
Yeah it’s the tutorial sea but considering that it’s one of the least influential seas and a calm area that nobody’s really taken advantage of I feel it just doesn’t make sense.

It’s also weird game play wise, vetex is spending all of his and other peoples islands on a already complete sea?
If the islands are unique and not a bunch of wilderness islands it’d still be a waste that could’ve easily been added to the 5 other seas to make them more unique.

The Bronze Sea is already complete, we shouldn’t even as a new player be spending too much time here in the whole of the game considering the 6 chapters proposed…

Nimbus Sea’s landmarks are just generally twice the size of that in the Bronze Sea, besides megastructures like Pelion, Othrys, Stepstones and The Jaws.

Sameria has about twice the size of Ravenna, for example. As by proxy, twice as much dead space and bland mountain.

I sometimes like to just grind any and all charts I get (not just frostmill, white summit and Akursius keep) and the ones to the north are fun and easy

Edited the main post because I completely forgot about this. The Bronze Sea doesn’t have 41 confirmed islands, but actually 42!
