How to be the baiter

First step: make a new account, give it a stupid username and profile picture

Second step: Scroll mindlessly for 5 minutes so you can post

Third step: cook up some hot garbage ragebait, it doesn’t have to be good, only controversial.

Fourth step: wait for the replies to roll in

Fifth step: reply to things with EVEN MORE hot garbage ragebait to stir the pot

Sixth step: enjoy your 300 message long argument

You have successfully become the master baiter

That’s how to become a normal baiter. Skilled Baiters make their bait hidden, as one must learn to bait the belief of people. -Y

skilled bait

Make the new account feel real - Engage a bit before the primary baiting begins, send out likes and read topic. Better results come with a longer time spent on the forums prior to the beginning of bait.

If you put some effort into the bait, or at least have it be decently written, it will generally get
more engagement than very low effort bait. Such as AphoticGoblin’s bait post, it had just enough effort put into the writing to get a decent portion of engagement. The main problem with his bait is that it was too apparent - despite the engagement and recognition from the post, he barely received likes and was immediately branded as a baiter. This is a good example of decent effort, low quality bait.

The effort put into bait and the quality are separate. You could put tons of effort into a post meant to drive engagement, however if it’s not quality, then you’ll be found out fast. Thus, future bait would likely have less effect than your initial bait. High quality bait requires effort, however high effort bait isn’t always high quality.

While yes, the bait doesn’t have to be good, if your bait isn’t blatantly terrible, people may argue on your behalf. If it’s something as simple as “pvers good, pvpers bad”, then naturally people will flock to the post to argue about it. This can help circumvent step five, as you wouldn’t need to directly engage at all after the initial post.

If it goes well, your bait could both get a substantial amount of engagement and not have you immediately framed as a baiter. This would allow subsequent baits to be easier, as to the unknowing majority, you’re still just a “normal” user (nobody using the forums is normal) who makes topics on whatever they wish.

Or just make sloppy bait, that gets decent engagement too. Too much low quality stuff these days, I say.
