What the fuck I always thought you need to move your ship along with whirlpool swirl movement instead of opposite

So, apparently, when you get into a whirlpool you need to use it’s kinetic energy and add it up on your own, which means you basically need to move along with the whirlpool’s swirl movement. This is because when you do so, you get MUCH more speed boost than usually which allows you to escape whirlpools and vortexes easier and faster.
Moving the opposite direction will make your swimming harder, eventually being very dangerous since you need to waste a lot of strenght to escape the Vortex if you move to the opposite of it’s movement, since your mechanical work will gradually reduce from this. This is about real life, and this should also work in games.
