i always pronounce it as ma-ko-bre

I say it how the Latin Google translate bot says it, good enough?

not like I’ll hear it so it really doesn’t matter but I’ve had people ask me (and say it wrong) before so I thought I’d clear it up.

I was right!!! I WAS FUCKING RIGHT!!! OHHH YEAAHHHH BOI!!!

wait hold on

if it was pronounced like that tho it would be spelled “ma-co-bra”

since “cobra” and “-cobre” are pronounced the same then I felt like retaining more of the “macabre” part of it (makes it more obvious and I personally like the word macabre more)

And therein lies the problem lol.

See, in my accent, the “a” in macaroni is more like /a/, and “mock” is more like /mɔk/. The vowel seems to be equally as long as the vowel in macaroni, too (as far as I can notice).

mɔk-o(ʊ) doesn’t sound right to me, though. Not for a name spelt “Maco”, anyway. I’ll just keep pronouncing it with the /a/, anyway.

Yeah, English’s spelling system is really inconsistent, but I suppose there’s some charm to it. Most of the things I like about English’s spelling have to do with its vowels. It’s somewhat “cute”.

co-BRAH
co-BRUH

kinda different

I suppose, but it works well enough in either situation for me
