i have all the requirements listed in the guidebook (lvl 150+, accepted kenton quest, etc) and i’ve sunken a ship, but don’t know how to turn it into a ship for my fleet? does it need to be a specific kind of ship, maybe?

Essentially once you’ve completed Edward’s quest by sinking a sailboat, you can speak to one of your deckhands that has maximum loyalty (dedicated) to hire them as a fleet captain. After a bit of time, your fleet captain will message you with their location and you can visit them to do things like switch their fleet task; as you start out, you’ll want to have them perform the “patrol” task for a while to help get your follower count up.
