How would you rework the arcane lore to improve it

Personally I’d do 3 major things

  1. bring the gods more into the lore (perhaps they all didnt just die in the mount olympus war and some of them went into hiding and formed a secret god resistance/plot to come back)
  2. make blessings rival sea curses, instead of just become cool lil’ gimmick powers to explain away freedrock’s ability make it so they actually are like remnants of the god’s spirits and they give you power to manipulate a god’s domain at the cost of letting that god gain control of you (could be part of the gods plan to return or sum)
  3. make sea curses less like devil fruits (idk fully how to do this but i just think it would be a lot better overrall)

(keep in mind this is js my opinion and you are free to share yours)

Awakenings are no longer limited to 2. I recall there being something to the effect of this not being absolutely set in stone, but you get what I mean. More game design space that way I think.

Awakenings don’t actually exist in lore; they’re just a gameplay mechanic

make chaos the original primordial force which then creates creation and destruction (which just function the same as chaos and creation in current lore)

I still think it’s kinda lame having chaos be the bad force

Then what’s that line Warren gives about there usually being up to 2 awakenings in someone’s life about?

bullshit he made up on the spot to make him seem like an experienced fighter ( ̄_ ̄|||)

There’s a lot of stuff i have in mind and i cant list all of them, so heres a few:

  • Revert the Hekate shard thing and make it so that the magic you’re born with is more influenced by personality than inheritance, and mutations happen when a person achieves a “realization” of sorts like how Theos awakened his Phoenix Magic after moving on from his wife’s death.

  • Bring back Aurem and soulcasting; Aurem is now made up of condensed chaos energy and can be found in places ravaged by it. Soulcasting was an ancient method of spell casting that was lost to time due to how taxing it was on the soul and body. It could be learned at high levels, so that your soul would be able to withstand the drawback, allowing you to cast spells without the need for magic circles, reducing the cast time and increasing the power boost from charged attacks in exchange for taking a bit of your health when you charge a spell for long enough. You’d also be able to toggle both the magic circles’ cosmetics and the charge effect for each spell.

  • Relics can now be created by an experienced oracle or legacy, making them a bit less rare since they no longer have to be directly blessed by a god, although the ones that were blessed directly are much more powerful.

  • Anyone can use trace energy if they’re skilled enough, and regularly spending energy will allow your body to adapt and store more energy, which also increases your physical strength and lifespan a bit (this would explain levelling up). The lifespan increase is more prominent with those with the gift of magic though.

  • Nonmages can use trace energy for basic things like strengthening their attacks or creating flying slashes and stuff, but those with great willpower can bend reality to their will in ways not even magic could do, allowing for stuff like extending the range of physical attacks, the storage and release of kinetic energy, flight, telekinesis, and even advanced feats such as teleportation, cutting and distorting space itself.

  • bring back promethean flame morock

  • The world is no longer limited by what our world has to offer, making it easier to make stuff up without fearing inaccuracies and stuff.

  • With effort, those with Cursed Inheritance can learn to summon, control and turn into their curse’s element, but that would cause a lot of strain on their body due to not actually possessing that curse. Having a different curse/blessing would lessen this strain.

  • Make it so that Freedrock visits the War seas and we interact with him and stuff, maybe even witness him fight, before killing him off.

  • Apotheosis is no longer a conqueror’s haki ripoff, and is instead a “final form” that changes your appearance and grants you unique abilities based off your current powers.

It’s all so that they make sense from the player’s perspective, in lore the player would just experiment with different things such as a second magic or weapon aura

Wait when was it confirmed to just be temu conqueror’s haki

It was in the book of athena somewhere. unless i’m misremembering, it said it was an explosive release of magic energy that stuns and knocks back foes and those who master it can imbue apotheosis in their attacks.

i’m gonna go look for it in case im wrong though

there it is, although this is from the wiki

I like this

Oh my god it’s just conqueror’s haki

I like how he didn’t even try to sugar-coat it
It really is just conquerors haki straight up

I’d also rename it from trace-magic to something more individualistic
Calling it Trace-Magic energy just makes it sound like a lesser version of actual magic energy…

I mean is it kind of not a lesser form of actual magic energy, utilizing it just to boost your physical body instead of attempting to cast the more complex spells. You aren’t painting entire works of art to throw them at people, you’re just covering yourself (Or your things!) in paint and then hitting someone harder than usual. In some cases it’s not any less effective than painting, that is correct, however you are still utilizing the “easier” and “lesser” way of the Arcane arts.

Meh. Doesn’t change the fact that it’s not as cool a name as it ought to be.

while I would prefer hecate shards to not be necessary to mutate your magic, somewhere I do kinda like it how the one thing keeping everyone (somewhat) safe from the dark sea, is also the thing you need in order to make your magic stronger. Sure, you’re contributing to the downfall of the entire human species but you have a cool new toy now so that’s definitely worth it, right?

also wasn’t there a theory where aurem was crystallised demigod/legacy blood and that’s why it was so often found in ancient temples?

I’d probably add some missing links, like Epimetheus being completely missing from the story, I feel like he should’ve been somehow implimented.

they do and they dont

the effect awakenings have does exist in lore (mastering multiple magics, imbuement, etc via training) but they just arent directly mentioned nor called awakenings

get rid of the god stuff
Make it so the “gods” are just superpowered mages/warriors from times long ago
