Clear cutting, better known as deforestation, is the removal of trees and other vegetation from forest area. Clear cutting is used for many products such as paper, and wood for example. Though the leading cause of clear cutting is agricultural expansion. Clear cutting has multiple effects on the environment, biotic and abiotic. The most concerning cause however is desertification. Desertification is exactly as the name sounds, turning a forest or other biomes into a desert. Particularly in forest, trees make up homes for many animals. Trees are also seen to provide shade from the sun in summer months and stop soil erosion with soil buildup on the roots.
Clear cutting makes up for 25% of CO2 emissions according to enviroliteracy organization. One quarter of CO2 emissions by just one activity is insane. CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) is a heat trapping gas, the continued spread of CO2 will lead to a higher planet temperature. With the removal of deforestation we will solve a quarter of the problem. Kill two birds with one stone. If we can get companies to invest in more environmentally friendly products, whether it be medicinal or other products, we can stop deforestation.

In today’s society, I would say this would be an impossible challenge to come by. A lot of companies are really not interested in needs for the planet when it comes to their profits. Luckily a lot of companies are taking in consideration towards the planet but I don’t think these efforts are really enough to get foreign businesses in 3rd World Countries to really care. Plus, some of the resources needed for companies around the world to become eco-friendly costs quite a bit and a lot of companies aren’t willing to take a chance.
Also, a lot of older people who run these businesses are completely negligent to the idea of ways to help the environment due to some of their political ideals and to the saying of “I’ll just be dead and gone when problems arise so I’ll just keep on doing what I do best”.
These are reasons as to why I said good luck to trying to bargain with businesses on helping with environmental issues. It would be an incredible tedious and difficult task to even do, but not impossible. From the top of my head, I think one of the easiest ways to solve this problem is to gain the attention of 1st World Leaders somehow and make them realize the importance of the issue. A worldwide effort would have to be made for this to even happen. Soon after that, laws will be created and enforced as well as money given to companies to start off with eco-friendly projects and soon enough other countries may follow suite to the idea.

Just replant the stuff you cut down. Done.

Capitalism forces companies to invest all resources into squeezing as much profit as possible. A company that decides to be environmentally friendly will be unable to compete against a company with no regard for our planet. Solving climate change is impossible under capitalism. We have only 1 remaining option.
