Seriously what the hell was Vetex thinking designing this guy
Both Allanon and Jarl was made with meta in mind, they are far too powerful for the average bloke.
And… they are really shitty designed at a game design standpoint, you can’t see shit with Allanon, you can barely move around in Jarl’s arena.
I doubt they will be changed anytime soon.
Me seeing jarl become a freaking gundam damn that’s cool.
Me realising i have to fight that in space equal to someone’s basement: Oh no.
Martins family house basement is bigger than that shit
I have lategame sweatlord gear on and I still get my ass handed to me in like literally 2 hits
Jarl has so many problems that I can’t even bother to list them all, he might be one of the top 10 worst roblox bossfights of all time
Allanon and jarl are polar opposites of eachother
Allanon moves too much but its attacks are pretty dodgable with how large the area is (beware frame drops tho), best strategy is a battle of attrition
Jarl does big damage with big aoe that you can barely dodge, you have to out-dps him, otherwise it doesn’t work
Plus both enemies require knowledge of how NPC’s work, something newer players certainly haven’t figured out yet
I did see someone say that a lot of testers have asked vetex to increase Ivar’s room size and of course ignored. I think he wanted Ivar to be a block/parry type of boss a la elden ring, which makes sense why the room is small. Even with blocking its still fucking ridiculous fighting him
One thing is what vetex wants, another thing entirely is what’s reasonably achievable with how the game has been set up.
Arcane Odyssey’s combat has never been block/parry based and to add a boss on the premise that it was is simply lack of foresight and terrible game design.
I generally dislike the fact vetex seems to suddenly be steering the game into the direction of elder scrolls, especially since he’s not actually fixing the already laid-down groundwork of the game. He’s just trying to make elder scrolls out of a game that’s fundamentally not elder scrolls.
Also I generally hate parry-based combat due to how oversaturated roblox is with them. In that regard, Arcane Odyssey is a breath of fresh air, it’d be tragic if it was forced into parryslop.
Arcane Odyssey has already defined itself as a dodge-centric/movement type game. Its already too late to pivot now, and if it forced itself to be one it will have a crisis of identity. Like a lot of the spells in this game just makes dodge a more favorable option than parrying it
Except vetex himself said that ivar is supposed to be a blocking-based boss (despite doing abhorrent amounts of damage even through parries)
Not mentioning how absolutely janky it is compared to dodging. It feels like it’s a half finished feature i hate it. Takes one business week to go from blocking to normal and vice versa
i could of sworn the balancing team made dodging a fucking joke by making you still eat a bit of the damage you dodged
I think they meant getting out of the way instead of getting hit
and the dodge mechanic might as well just not exist. isn’t the window like 0.15 seconds or something insane like that? it technically gives slightly higher damage reduction than just blocking but you’re never going to reliably dodge attacks with a window that small
But It doesn’t matter, a game can still be forced into being parry-slop despite its built function.
Vetex has shown he builds features based on his interests, e.g. the wanna-be parry boss Ivar.
And… as we all know, Vetex is AO’s god.
the premise of his boss fight is cool, and his attacks are honestly pretty neat and creative, at least compared to most other bosses where their attacks are fairly straightforward
if his boss room was double the size, jarl ivar would honestly be a top 5 boss imo
I mean, they’d have all of Bronze Sea and a good chunk of Nimbus for that.
Hmmmm yes -298 damage
What a fun and engaging “parry” boss (90% of Jarl’s moves aren’t even really well telegraphed btw he just does shit sometimes and you lose like 200-400 HP for no reason)
i still have yet to figure out what jarl ivar’s moveset actually is lol, i only have 3 or 4 moves down
He like roars randomly and completely out of nowhere which chunks you for 200 HP and then he just spams random bullshit to high heaven like he’s a turret shadow mage until whoever he fights most likely dies because newer players probably don’t run sophragos omen modified amulet kraken band metaslop
Vetex took so much inspiration from the elder scrolls he gave jarl ivar thu’um
