the book in-game called arcane chronicles shouldnt exist i think its kinda silly
it feels like vetex really wanted an proper in-game way to learn all the lore, but instead of waiting for a good time to deliver different sections of it, he just put it all into a single book that you can randomly find like everywhere (its not even a unique item like it SHOULD be at the very least )
it would be so much better if the lore was actually scattered around over the course of the game, allowing you to piece it all together instead of randomly having access to all of it by opening a chest
i also think it further divides lore and gameplay. lore and gameplay do not need to perfectly adhere to eachother, but this makes it feel like the lore is entirely separated from the actual game (atleast to me). I donāt think thatās very good game design
and for all the people who I know might be like āThereās no way to learn the lore in-game without it!ā vetex himself said weāre like 1/5 through the story, and Iād imagine far less of the full game is completed. There is plenty of time for it to be in-game, not everything needs to happen right now, BE PATIENT!!
yeah thats basically it, i think this book is kinda stupid and limits what can be done with arcane odyssey in the future and i think its overall a bad way to deliver lore (books arent bad for delivering lore, but lore of this magnitude should NOT just be in a single book)
Iām pretty sure the arcane chronicles are supposed to just be this singular lore book, but vetex hasnt finalized the lore doc so he only put in the base info
The issue is, there are probably about 5 characters in all of AO that know more than about 3 sentences of what is told in the arcane chronicles. The book is specifically about the history, and a few things relevant to AA. Itās not like there really is any way to learn about these things normally, unlike in AA where you had multiple people who were there at the time telling you what they thought was important.
Arcane Chronicles should be replaced with a Great Protector Bible.
Lore should be revealed through character dialogue, not an item. Have us be able to hear a story from Randal by revisiting the Myriad to give it some value, and to align with what the game implied it wanted us to do by locking up all those books.
if the arcane chronicles is supposed to be a produced book in the story rather than a one of a kind, would be neat if youād find different books but given most are found underground or old chests or whatever, theyāre missing a lot of pages, maybe a ui option in the menu to view collected pages?
just because arcane odyssey is farther removed from whats mentioned in Arcane Chronicles doesnt mean it cant be told in different ways (more stuff in the dark sea about the āpre-fractureā world, revisiting Randal in some other quest or even a quest from him, etc.)
i think its missed storytelling potential to put all of that into a single book you can just get out of a normal chest, especially with how important the lore it actually describes is
Yeah I can agree with you there. It is definitely something that you feel shouldnāt just be a thing you get randomly from a chest.
It could always be a temporary thing for now though so that people who only play the game and donāt get involved with the community can still know the lore before the time to actually talk about it gets added (I hope it is)
see i just found it irritating when i desperately needed notebooks for deckhands and id see the icon pop up in the bottom right corner only for it to be the 17th arcane chronicles
hear me out: randal questline
do stuff for him and he gives you books
ex. beat a prominent fire user and you get a book on rupin
fight a powerful pirate and he gives you cursebeardās book
etc etc
