I’m a writer. I’ve been posting my Arcane adventures adaptation on the forum since May, took a break, and returned. But for some reason, I don’t feel seen anymore.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m ok with my view count (even though none of my posts have hit triple digit views yet), but I feel lost. There’s no more feedback, nothing I can use to improve in the comments, and it sounds ungrateful, but I haven’t gotten much praise either (ever since I returned from hiatus around last month or so, there haven’t been any comments on my stories) so I don’t know if I’m doing good.
My morale has gotten pretty low. It’s been worse (I considered dropping writing the adaptation at one point) but it’s gotten better. Maybe it’s my fault. Maybe it’s not. I want feedback. I want to see where I can improve. But I can’t improve if no one says anything. So please help.
I think ur writing is good, just too lazy to read fanfiction for a game I’ve never played. Hope u get more feedback, keep up with the writing if u still want to
besides the time the Abyss Sea AU was very popular, the writing category is one of the least viewed categories, which sucks but I also understand why (most people here just arent looking for stories to read)
Compare that to the art category which is similar but has way more traction since its alot easier and quicker to just look at the art vs reading a chapter/whole story. This isn’t just the forums either as I believe im in atleast a couple servers with channels specifically for writing and very consistently theyre all less viewed/have less reactions compared to stuff in the regular art channel
so no matter what you can be sure its not a fault of your writing or anything
Personally I would just ignore it, You can’t drop a master piece every day, You can’t be one of the top talents instantly that get recognized everywhere. The starting is always garbage and always will be.
Art takes time, you can’t force it. Don’t let your thoughts screw you over cuz your 2 days of thinking felt like a week and you some how feel like you wasted a week. It’s a mistake I made a lot.
Last week I didn’t make as much progress as the previous two weeks and for some reason my mind was thinking about how much of a failure I am.. I mean that’s ridiculous, It’s only a week and I literally started my dev journey a month ago, Why am I thinking this just because my recent progress seems slower then before?
Truth is, being in any creative field is more about maintaining good mental health then always making good progress and good stuff. What matters is when your moving forward and putting as much effort as you can. After you can’t? give your head a break. We aren’t machines.
Don’t worry about unnecessary things, things that are also external and/or aren’t related to art and your work. be a little ignorant and delusional, The people who worry too much will be left behind and it will only make them worry more.
You are not alone. This is a phenomenon I see more and more often as the months pass. There are many issues but I’ll try to keep it short.
The elephant in the room are: fast-paced content, social media and algorithms.
A good way of getting yourself to be known within a community is to talk often, and slowly but surely advertise your content. Other users will end up recognizing you over time and will be more interested in your posts (don’t be like me who is a professional lurker and knows everybody but isn’t known by anyone).
Recent Example: Maplestorm’s Arcane Arena was a good release because he had a dedicated thread for the game, then a Discord server for those interested, and then Vetex himself also advertised the game on his Discord, helping gather an early fanbase.
Most people are not willing to consume media they have to think on, such as a novel, because images and videos are more attractive. The Roblox community is young, and as such has a lower attention span than average.
The Writing category has always been barren compared to Art and Doodle Threads because people can’t easily judge the content while scrolling, and most are not even willing to (because there are faster, easier ways to obtain dopamine and the time/reward ratio for text is not worth it). You can ask other writers like Gamehero14 to know more .
Supporting the two points above we get into the “likes/popularity” system common on social media platforms. People like to see number go up, and it’s pretty common for art posts to have many likes. Reasons?
They are easy to judge and to move on from, it’s the reason why in Youtube, for example, views are more common than likes, which are more common than comments.
The poster is normally a recognized community member, and as such has a following or fanbase who tend to follow the artist. This is why, for example, JTN’s Doodle Thread’s posts get many likes easily (because the artist is a recognized community member).
There are a few of these other “doodle” threads I like, but the like count is lower because the artists aren’t that popular (because they don’t interact much with the community and as such lack a following).
How to receive feedback on your content? Keep those three points (Attention/Span/Recognition) in mind, and as such:
Talk more with the community, in a conversational manner and relaxed manner, get people to recognize you (this might take months at most [right now, the forums is on a Dark Age until the Full game Releases, so it’s the best time to talk]).
Create a “progress” thread instead of finished works (live-service games tend to garner more attention than complete-at-day-one games | doodle threads are more popular than one-and-done art pieces).
^ After becoming a recognized and liked community member, you can let loose and you will see how people now care about your content (because they have gotten to know you as a person).
I don’t know of any, but there may be some “hidden” writer’s communities for this Arcane Universe . Talk with other writers or ask in regular chat (when you get access to it) to know more.
Through being a recognized member and developing connections with others you will probably meet more people who are also interested in writing (writers learn from each other don’t they?), ultimately increasing your chances of your content receiving attention.
I know it’s tedious but it’s how creative communities work. Sometimes success comes from connections and not mere raw talent (the best writer won’t be known by anybody without any marketing).
For writing just pause it and come back to it when u feel motivated. Maybe ur doing too much. The key to good writing is to just have fun while making it. Idk how much ur working on it, but I would consider also jumping ship back and forth and posting your work somewhere else as well
