I hate pvp culture

I’m gonna be real, they’re absolutely right, the first step to being better PvP is to enjoy the build that you’re playing, especially if it’s off-meta, and playing off-meta is more rewarding by a long shot. By just ‘playing the game’, you’re putting yourself up to try new builds, make new slots, change up your stats, et cetera, which is all just apart of one huge first step. :man_shrugging:

As for anything past that, the same principle applies, I always see people saying ‘oh just hop on aimlabs’ or to ‘start aim training’, I think those are both unnecessary, and you’ll develop your own playstyle as you PvP more and more, and if you’re being critiqued for how you play (referring to the “Beam Spammer” part), then you know you have to switch something up. Nobody is a designated teacher on this game we all just play the game how we’ve learned to play it.

I don’t know what region you are, but if you’re either US or EU, my clan (Neptune) might be the perfect place to get feedback regarding PvP, you can find our server invite in Clan Hub (ironically enough, one of our co-leaders also runs a magma mage AND uses the forums).

You’re… missing the point entirely arc

They were playing an off-meta build (magma/light) and the “friends” were telling them this despite the friends themselves running on-meta builds.

part of why ill probably never get into pvp in this game when i normally atleast try to in other games
Arcane Odyssey’s pvp is disproportionately toxic compared to other games (even deepwoken) and I would rather not even bother with it and spend time doing things I know I like doing in this game

If I had to guess why AO is (imo) more toxic than a lot of other games, its cause of the bounty hunting mechanic and also the fact the pve and pvp are so separated and yet connected in a few ways that makes all of it irritating to atleast some degree for everyone
Imagine you’re a PVE player who isnt interested in the PVP, then some guy with 400 player kills comes out of nowhere and kills you in 20 seconds for your frankly low fame. Now imagine youre a bounty hunter and you keep running in on people doing PVE stuff when all you wanna do is PVP
gaining renown can easily be done with only PVE and yet it’s sole purpose resides in PVP, in my opinion its a horribly designed system in its current state. All it’s sole purpose (bounty hunting) does is inconvenience almost everyone involved whenever it happens

that was kind of a tangent but yeah

i agree, i said this and people heavily disagreed with me.
you dont need aim trainers, you just need to play the game more ¯_(ツ)_/¯
(this goes for any game)

because obviously the friends also know that metamancing isn’t the most fun option, it’s just, as the acronym says, the most effective tactic available, playing a build that you like, like the op is beginning to do, IS the best way to maintain engagement and thus improve faster, even if you’re off-meta and hence starting at a lower point

i’m not missing the point you’re missing the part where you think about how you begin to enjoy pvp in ao

wdym

everyone knows the best way to start enjoying anything is to just do it with friends (real friends at least)

the “friends” are telling the op to run off-meta, which they are doing seemingly the opposite of, doesn’t that just scream that these “friends” are dissatisfied with their skill and had to swap to be on-meta, and hence are giving bad tips because they genuinely don’t know anything :sob:

best way is to pvp people you’ve never met so you don’t compete against the same builds repeatedly :sunglasses:

for instance in 1.13 i had this problem where i’d get fucked by just zerkers because i had no clanmates who ran zerker, etc etc

bro i am too tired to yap sorry this didnt have any proper ass grammar :sob:

I feel ya

I really struggle against mage sometimes ngl, especially ones that run agility

then again mage is a stupid ass build + agility needs that rework desperately so meh

i just swapped to running more agility on conj and now im struggling against mages too :sob:

Ehhhh depends imo

wdym depends bro

who are you hanging out with :skull:

He probably means that it depends on how much banter you are accustomed to exchanging with your friends.

Though OP’s case above doesn’t seem like friendly banter

As a pvper I do not accept those people as one of us

OP’s case seems more like bandwagoning and bullying than banter :fr:

Yeah that’s pretty much what I meant

Seems to me like you are surrounding yourself around a bunch of idiots, good for you that you unfriended them

As for tips, use 2x arrow on blast shape for magma, make sure u are using a good set (60 size, 200ish speed, 80-100ish pow 800-1000 def) for magma mage that gives you the freedom to use its good size affinity

you should also be using light for its dodge reflex and maybe even arcanium gear if u can

Yeah

Tbh i only glanced at the post but idk why your going to waste time hanging out with people you dont even like :man_shrugging:

I must be really lucky because no one I’ve ever pvped with has been as mean as your “friends”, though any time I join an Elysium i always wait for someone to request a 1v1 and it always ends with both sides exchanging “gg” and never interacting again :skull:

As for advice, I offer nothing in the way of combat but I will say to definitely run off meta, it’s fun, I’ve run off meta since release due to me being a sand Conjurer (no one remembers sand exists )

Sand is peak I love sand
