So, i’m hunting for hecate essence right now (the one for the ability to change any magic you have into another), but i’ve spent over 9 hours searching in the dark sea over the past 2 days looking for one.
I’ve gone through 30+ islands and haven’t found a SINGLE ONE. despite this file having four legendary deckhands, several sunkens, several exotic enchants, and over 175k galleons, i want to fully reset her in favor of making a brand new file to circumvent this RNG madness that is the dark sea. It’s driving me nuts, it’s making me stressed, it’s making me hope that a tester could just spawn one in for me in a safe place.
so, i have a decision: do i delete this file and remake her with water magic instead of snow magic, or do i keep gambling in the dark sea hoping that i could get it eventually?
at this point the original 33% feels too low to be valid for the danger and especially the time one will have to invest to find this. At least if you find the highest point of an island in the far reaches, make it almost guaranteed so we won’t be stuck grinding for weeks hoping this worthless little purple thing shows up.
But fr tho, this has to be the worst grind I have done in recent years, all you do is sail in complete darkness for hours and pray to not find some atrocious mount everest island.
And when you do find a decent one (that is still sameria-sized for some reason), you gotta sneak through dozens of level 400 enemies that can 2 shot you and have infinite in-land agro range, all in the hopes of finding a small orb of moving jpgs in the middle of heavy rain, magic tornados that always seem to spawn in the middle of islands, and lightning.
And you can’t even know if it’s there or not, all you can do is hope that you checked every little corner and that the essence didn’t spawn in some troll spot like the one in this video, oh and apparently the essence has a chance of not working too!

i’ve spent 14 counting today from now since update release. I’ve gone through over 30 islands now, and it won’t spawn.
Had this bug happen which caused me to be unable to ship repair, and it ended my run since i couldn’t do ship repairs against atlanteans after i thought i outran them. I was close to an island which i thought i saw the essence, on, behind a tornado too…
I’ve spent around 20 hours looking for the damn thingy and finally I’ve got it after what could probably be over 40+ islands. This whole odyssey was not enjoyable in the slightest.
It’s sad to hear that a darkaner have lost their chance at finding the cursed thing. If possible, I’d like to lend you my Trailblazer set since I don’t have any use for it atm; the only condition is that I wish to have it returned after you’re done, as the set itself is quite an investment.
As someone who spent hundreds of hours in Runescape trying to get rare drops sometimes trying 2500 kills to get one single item that should have appeared by 1000 I would just start over and enjoy the fresh air of leveling again.
But if you proceed to challenge the cruel nature of RNG the healthiest attitude is to expect nothing.
Just explore the dark seas trying to have fun like the essence does not even exist. Make it your character’s adventure in the blackened seas. Otherwise disappointment will grind you as the hour count keeps going up.
