I went in thinking it was a subversion of all expectations from me, that it would be amazing in everyway. spoilers ahead.
for that, it was my folly to give it that unfair view.
I think it wasn’t all that unique, it was still a fun watch and it really took me in, rarely did I ever watch any new series actually, instead I would put it in a small screen while I played a game like horizons gate. but cyberpunk edgerunners took me in and really made me want to play the actual game now
I think instead of the hypersex feminine idea of what a woman should be, popularly in anime where they are only characterised for their “appearance” was slightly subverted but was still present for rebecca or lucy. although they did have their times to shine as actual characters many times !
the last few episodes, the last two episodes… especially, took me out of the series and got me thinking again, I noticed the shapes of the characters and, as someone experienced in animation/drawing, I noticed heavily the shapes of the cars and the actual skeleton david was wearing. all simplified squares.
the skeleton david vs adam smasher’s design, heavily contrasted adam’s more realistic anatomy to david’s blocky mech… otherwise, it is still a good watch.
I definetly shed a tear atleast once, especially whenever the mother was shown or mentioned, I do have a soft spot for that. but anything else, I shed nothing. I dont think I will be revisiting the series anytime.
