Yea I figured that’d be the case at the start.
its pretty lenient with permadeath
basically, you get a few lives (i forgot how many lol) in the overworld, after you die that many times (or only once in a few specific circumstances) you get sent to the depths
dying THERE is permadeath, but you can escape it.
You can escape the perma-death? YOOO lets go I thought I’d have to totally reset after 3 lives
theres a good few issues though
-at later levels you will need to go through a trial consisting of a tough mob relative to your level (These arent that bad until later levels imo)
-the depths itself is rather dangerous enemy wise, especially for new players
and the main issue
you can be killed in pvp in the depths, and will wipe due to it
people WILL do this just to mess with you
life ruined

honestly once you get good at the game (referring to comments already sent here), permadeath pretty much becomes non-existent and those are pretty much one of many problems you’d probably have that’d disappear
I’d say wiping can be insanely good for improving your builds due to constant balancing/etc. I’ve made a couple builds before and I had to wipe them due to updates and insufficient and they came out better than before and would usually take about only an hour to progress entirely
learning about the game and learning how to survive is a HUGE reward you could ever get in deepwoken
just something I wanted to share since people complained far too much about permadeath, had to go through it as well but it is what it is

I agree with this, Deepwoken is a master’s piece made as an example of bad game design.
Rest in peace, OP, you’ll regret spending 5$ soon as long as you have a mediocre amount of intellect at minimum

Depends on your taste in games. I played it a couple years ago and hated every second of it, so to me personally it’s a major L, but if you enjoy it then W for you
Can’t stress enough how much I despise the game though, it felt like the bare minimum skill level just to play the game was way higher than any other game I’ve ever played (saying this as a Souls veteran), and when you’re bad at the game it’s so incredibly punishing.
And when I said I wasn’t having fun after like 6 or 7 hours of playing, the community response was the most annoying “get gud” spam I’ve seen in my entire life
