IDK what it is, but honestly I don’t care what the community thinks. Vetex was right in that games are a horrible medium for AO’s genre, and the community isn’t helping.
I’ve looked on Reddit and the reaction has been nothing but toxic. This announcement was only supposed to be for patreon subscribers, and one guy goes out and leaks it to the exact reaction Vetex was worried about. He didn’t want to post it on the discord for a reason.
Both sides are wrong. Vetex focused too much on immersion instead of story, but he kept on losing members of the dev team along the way.
I can’t. After seeing this community and how toxic it got, I’m done. I’m done staying quiet. It’s our fault too. Our fault for being so toxic (even if you weren’t), our fault for being so pessimistic, and our fault for being so passive aggressive. As a person working on a bug personal project myself the AO3 one), I know what praise and criticism can do to people.
So shut up and grow up. Vetex is only human, and the game isn’t ending. But we need to stop being so negative and start understanding that everyone has a limit, and that our reaction may have just proven to Vetex that he made the right decision to step away from this damn Dumpster fire of a community.
Watching the community and the dev argue is like watching two parents argue. It’s horrible and you just sit there being unable to do anything about it other than a ‘can you two please stop’.
Personally I don’t really care whether or not Vetex steps away. It’s good that he spoke about his issues, and it’s also nice to know that AO won’t halt development.
This was idiotic to begin with. Something this big should never have been locked to Patreon, and thinking that it wouldn’t be leaked immediately because everyone would recognize that fact was delusional on Vetex’s part.
The wiser move would have been to just say it outright. Rip the bandaid off and get it over with.
Funny you mention that, since the community also has one. It wasn’t always so negative, but vetex also crossed our limits by repeatedly ignoring and fighting against feedback aimed at making the game better. In the end, it’s his mess.
no y’know what, I always thought AO’s story was meant to compliment the awesome gameplay, rather than the other way around, which is why Vetex would always add anything but story sections and made way better gameplay than plot. I still don’t think that’s wrong, AO is like, the only Roblox game that has good gameplay centered on a story.
Especially riding off of WoM which was all gameplay, it has to be a gameplay-first story-second game.
To be clear, I’m basing my opinions on early access AO before it started getting updated. Obviously it kinda stopped being coherent there.
I support Vetex just making a new game entirely, because we just need a fresh start after all the excess content that got added to AO.
I’m not saying the community is blameless, heck it can even be called downright toxic. But vetex gave us promises after promises after promises, and guess what? Almost none were realised. The 2024 roadmap, full release being a big update but not truly deserving of it’s title, and arcanium weapons…need i say more?
All the features that community wanted (story focus, arcanium weapons, kingdom alignement, the ability to use only 1 weapon, water prooring, etc). Sooooo many promises and dissappointments.
He should take responsibility for those failures.
And frankly, i think letting others work on it is an improvement. Because if he doesn’t want to change then the second best thing is someone else working on it.
The community might be bad but big V has a big contribution to it
“Toxicity” the toxicity doesnt come out of nowhere
“Games are a horrible medium for AO genre” wrong again, his problem is just that the only kind of game he decided to make was open world 3d rpgs instead of anything else that would have been factually easier.
He should have stopped at AA for the open world genre and then focused on other types of games to tell the story of the Arcane Universe
also you’re weirdly parasocial you might want to do something about that
I don’t think he should’ve completely stopped with open world RPGs at AA but I do think it might’ve been better if he tried out more stuff, like adventure story, maybe he’d find way better fitting genres, but he could also return to OWRPGs if he found the others insufficient
Not like the AU doesn’t have stories to tell for other games either, so he could still very much be making smaller scale experimental games that still stick to the AU at least somewhat
Open world rpgs quickly become incompatible with roblox due to the scale of vetex projects and the fact that for a long time he was reluctant to hiring a team, it would genuinely be easier to big a much bigger world if he went for something like Hearts Of iron as a template for his game, or something like terraria or minecraft farming, but i think he doesnt want to because for each of his game he specifically wants the mc to be special.
Although community known for bad reaction every part of community has right to know this reaction might be over the top and toxic but this doesn’t invalidate our right know news of this big scale as a community
