Fahrenheit is genuinely a better scale for measuring the tempurature outside (not in baking/cooking/chemistry etc. though)

so basically it’s only good for one thing

its more precise and 0-100 mostly spans the range at which temp varies through the seasons

i get that, but then people say 60 degrees and say that it’s chilly outside, but like that’s halfway up the scale

just confuses me a bit

as opposed to celsius which for some reason just cares about water

water is pretty prevalent in everyday life, having a clear notion of whether stuff will freeze outside is nice, and 100 is an easy number for making tea or coffee at. also easier to remember when it’s cold outside, as opposed to 32

funnily enough they actually were going to change to metric as a joint effort with canada at some point apparently, but they backed out for whatever reason while canada went through with it

Yeah but freezing isnt the point at which its cold exactly, on both scales “cold” is an arbitrary number depending on the location and person

nah, the celsius scale for weather is like 0-30, we just lower the maximum when thinking about it for that purpose
