Intensity, Gems and DoT magics

If any of you rely on DoT in your playstyle, do you think being able to focus on a specific part of your magic next update thanks to the gems will benefit you? Will you focus on max attack destruction or status afflictions?

As of right now, from a damage perspective, intensity is more useful for magics with a rather short status effect duration like Plasma, Fire (Scorch does 30% damage bonus in 3 seconds so 10% per second) since it acts as a free damage buff.
It’s not that useful for poison, acid and magma mages since their status effects are fairly long (20 tick DoT and 10 tick DoT respectively) and you will certainly be refreshing constantly.
That is of course without taking into account the increased size of the magic hazards, which i think is the main allure of the intensity stat.

With the next update, You will be able to maximize the length of the status effect or the size of your clouds as you see fit. And more importantly, since intensity won’t be a required stat for you any more, you will be able to invest into other stats. I think this is a good thing because it legitimizes even more the use of gems in your builds.

If I have to add something, I think Potency Jewels are a good addition as well, mainly because of Aura and Focus. For example, Metal Magic Resistance Aura increases health by 31%, and with 259 intensity, the number goes up to 76% roughly. Yet I don’t see any metal Mage running intensity, because it is not worth sacrificing other stats.

I got these numbers from this guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ra_MMJrlEvo

I know it is fairly old so feel free to tell what I’m wrong about

…the jewel substats increase the dot duration
lets say its the same scaling as the majority of jewel substats (max 5% for t1 reagent, max 10% for t2 reagent)
that would mean that its less effective on magics with short status effect duration since they wont get a whole tick
for plasma, you would need 40% for 1 extra tick (4.2 seconds) because 3+(40%x3)=4.2
for fire/bleed related magics, you need 20% for an extra tick (6 seconds) because 5+(20%x5)=6
for melting/corroding, you need 10% for an extra tick (11 seconds) because 10+(10%x10)=11
for poisoned, you can have 2 whole ticks for 10% (22 seconds) because 20+(10%x20)=22

So is that part true? Since from what i understand about your post, next update affliction gems won’t really be that useful for shorter dot because it will be percentage based. What i’m trying to understand is if intensity right now is a flat increase?

oh, that
well, if you hover over intensity in arcane odyssey, it clearly states a percentage instead of a flat number

Thanks. From reading a few posts on the forum i had gotten the idea that after, say, 30 points put into intensity you would get 1 second more. I guess they were all talking about poison as a standard

ive heard the number 24 getting tossed around here and there, too
