Internet Detox - Waves of unnecessary information

Been noticing that I’ve had an excess number of channels and videos pushed on me from youtube which is excessively related to politics or social issues.

I realized that a lot of stress that I take seems to come from that stuff when a lot of issues wouldn’t change whether I care about them or not especially since a lot of them literally don’t affect me.

I know the media is kind of hard wired to spread drama or reactions then actual positivity but it surprising how slowly it can creep up on you.

This is probably the second time I decided to detox my recommendations, I already deleted Instagram so that i would stop scrolling on that. All these things seem to distract me from things I actually care about

additionally I started noticing how few “health support” channels simply use phycological tricks to ruin your attention span anyways in the name of actually helping you.

I was watching this one video recommended to me which I think was about focusing on work and finishing goals except the entire video had video cuts like every 3-10 seconds like a fucking cocomelon video.

I actually started to filter few videos I’d watch based on if they would use these tricks and you’d be surprised how many you’d remove, especially some of these new usually 1k subscriber channels that has a good level of editing quality.

Recently also noticed a music channel doing this editing trick where he’d show a much of things I’d need to learn to improve my composing except all of them are blurred so I need to watch a 45 min video to know all of them and it’s absolute garbage

I didn’t watch it enough to see if it was just the editor making it useless but if I had focused on the kind of video I’d have ended up learning nothing cuz 45 mins of information isn’t gonna stick when I’m actually working

Try avoiding videos that seem to explain simple things for very long times, If you notice a video explaining a concept they already mentioned at the start of the video then quit the video instantly. Don’t promote these channels to others or your own recommendations even if they are doing “good” because chances are they don’t care whether you improve or not and are ready to use manipulative tactics to keep you in.

This is especially important if you have any creative hobbies like art cuz these kinds of stuff only taint your work and ruin your health and focus.

Youtube’s don’t recommend channel and not interested options are surprisingly effective so use them to remove any bad content asap.

I do sometimes like watching decently long, decently in-depth ‘educational’ videos just because learning about new things is fun sometimes, but usually not when I’m actively looking for information about the subject the video is about.
but yeah, the back to back cuts and the way too energetic/loud voices do annoy me a lot as well. I just click away instantly once I am sure the entire video will be like that.

No wonder I don’t trust people. They simply cannot be.

I agree, we need to rid the internet of algae

personally I’d rather be stressed about politics rather than oblivious to it.

That’s fine but in the grand scheme of things it’s often pointless. You’d just grow up older to regret wasting time on it.

Well I’m not really doing anything time consuming about it.

I’m not sure If I understood what you mean here but if I understood it right then it’s genuinely sad if the only thing you have going on is getting stressed over something for no reason

it’s good to catch up on politics every now and then, but I feel like checking up on it on a daily basis just causes pointless stress (for me at least)
and besides, if something big happens you’ll most likely know decently quickly
