Iron vs Gold - Which is better?

Ever since the game released, people have been wondering this question - is gold better than iron?

To be completely honest, I’m 100% sure gold is more popular than Iron. Iron is probably the most underrated magic in fact. It’s just seen as a shadow under gold, so people instinctively choose gold over it.

In this post, we’ll debunk this dilemma once and for all! Here are the pros and cons of Gold compared to Iron.

PROS:

  • Deals 0.10x more impact damage
  • Has 0.10x better average clash rate (wins one more magic)
  • Deals 0.125x more overall damage
  • Better synergies (10% more on Frozen and Melting)

CONS:

  • 0.1x less speed
  • 0.1x less part destruction

SIMILARITIES:

  • Both are metal magics
  • Exact same looks but different color
  • Same sound effects
  • Both are ‘heavy’ magics
  • Exact same synergies (except gold has better percent increases)
  • Same status effect (bleeding)

Looking at this info, Gold seems to have better clash, damage, and synergies compared to Iron, in exchange for less speed. It also has less destruction, but if we were to consider this in a PvP point of view, destruction would be irrelevant.

Personally, I think Gold is better than Iron. Iron’s 0.1x more speed simply doesn’t compensate enough for Gold’s damage, clash and synergies, which are all used in PvP. Gold is like the ‘heavier’ version of Iron.

I’d say that little speed difference (not so little, Iron is 25% faster than Gold) can be pretty impactful in terms of placed explosion and blast speeds. Part destruction may also prove useful in the future, so why not?

in my opinion, if you are going to sacrifice that much speed for good clashes and damage, might as well just go for gold

Yeah if you look at it as a percentage then the speed difference is quite a lot.

In retrospect - why did Vetex even add iron if it was going to be so similar to gold?

Iron for sure! Iron tools have much more durability, and can mine much more things, like diamonds. They can also be crafted in a variety of ways. Gold is only good for golden apples and enchanting. Both pretty lackluster.

Counterpoint: golden apples and enchants become dramatically more useful in PvP, so in a way it’s really a matter of application, because they do different things.

gold and iron are super similar in WoM tho. Isn’t the biggest difference like, bleed bonus or something?

both of them apply bleeding, the most relevant diference beetwen them is that iron has 0.1 more speed, while having 0.1 less damage
