A hot-dog bun is a variant of a bun, which can be considered a roll. A split roll with a filling is considered a sandwich as subs/hoagies are commonly considered sandwiches.

This is what this poll sounds like right now. A sandwich is really difficult to define because of things like open sandwiches, subs and even ice cream sandwiches which don’t use any bread at all and how people generally don’t tend to follow an easily identifiable pattern in dubbing things sandwiches or not which is why you’ll see many different and sometimes conflicting definitions of sandwiches on the internet. imo “two or more slices of bread or a split roll having filling in between” is a gross oversimplification but I’m understanding of why it’s hard to give anything better than that.

Pizza is also a sandwich because a calzone is a pizza and a calzone is basically a hotdog with pizza filling, making it a sandwich
