Quick update
I actually finished the file and I ganked some people today
It felt kinda weird to not be the one to always lose for once, but people started running and I had to chase them which makes me feel kinda bad
But none of the hunts were with posters. I also made a friend along the way by attempting to kill them so that’s cool
the thing is, I can’t bring myself to rk people for renown because I know I’d just be ruining some other person’s gameplay experience and wasting their time.
this just leaves me minding my own business every day in game, fishing, farming, or looking for trades. Then this sweat who uses some meta mage power build/thermo fister comes in to put 400hp of damage into my ass with no warning whatsoever. I dont play AO for pvp, and Im used to losing fights.
Whenever I lose a fight, they immediate scramble to their messaging and type “wow u suck bozo, total lack of skill, complete fodder.” Whenever I win a fight, they keep coming back until I die, after which they head over to their messages once again for another string of boring insults.
it’s a good thing renown doesn’t have any real use anymore, they can assassinate me as many times as they want, it doesn’t do much other than waste my time getting ready for my next dark seas trip or underwater looting.
ah, i get that last part, at some point you figured out it’s just a matter of finding your own niche and enjoying it, Arcane Odyssey is a game, you’re meant to enjoy it. Do you enjoy fighting close and personal and dealing a ton of damage? Do you enjoy staying out of range and damaging them from afar? Or perhaps do you enjoy more flashy moves from weapons? Or perhaps a mix, it’s up to you, really
And regarding your perhaps “overreaction”, my minor anger issues has caused me trouble regarding taking pvp a little too seriously at times but i realize all i’m losing is my ego, it’s perfectly normal however to think “wow, pvp is awful” when you’re still losing even after 3 hours, hell i had to run a tanky AOE crutch ileg build to even get some wins in at first.
And as for ganking i think my experiences with getting ganked was usually getting 2v1’d by someone and their boyfriend, last time it was a leglord and their what i assumed to be warrior boyfriend, so yeah i don’t blame you if you dont enjoy getting ganked.

setting messages to friends only was a game changer for me, all the messages i get were people bothering me about trading or trash talk, you legit dont miss anything by having them off

One time when I was in cumulus I got ganked by 2 people higher level than me, but I didn’t care that much and moved on
Later in judgement they hopped on so I 1v2ed them and won
Then again at the end of third sea, me and one other guy they ganked 2v2ed them (we won)
Ar is so small you will probably meet the same people you saw in second or third sea
