If you are specifically looking for mage advice, go for crystal as a second magic, since it has a huge synergy with metal

Replace fire with lighting because 25% damage plus it 2nd fastest magic 1.4x and has pretty good damage output 0.9x

Metal stands out for being the hardest hitter but the slowest. It also has the best resistance aura of them all.

In terms of roleplay fire and metal sounds very cool but in practice fire does not complement metal weaknesses too well. Its not fast enough to make up for metal slow speed nor has a great status effect that complements metal damage.

The closest to maintaining your original idea would be metal/magma. While magma is slow its a firelike magic that has a melting status effects which boosts for 10 seconds all damage done with metal. So its a combo for short range combat. Acid is a good faster substitute to magma.

Otherwise a very fast magic like lightning and light do complement metal short range well.

if it’s your first magic, you can technically switch it out by going into the far reaches and finding hecate’s essence but good luck doing that

i think overall, unless you want to focus solely on pvp, go for whatever you want, given balancing will always tip the scales one way or another, so meta build one day could be dookie the next and you’re unhappy with what you’ve got anyway
