Is Silas neutral?

Once again ive been thinking about lore and whatnot and stumbled upon a weird part about Silas.

Many know that when we fight bosses and win they are said to be “defeated” if they are not killed by us directly. Even the bosses that we do kill it does seem like it wasn’t really Us that did so. (Argos is crushed by rock, Jarl Ivar seemingly just dies from exhaustion??) This makes it seem like Silas is merciful (is there a canon route? Inform me.) he doesn’t kill even the most evil of foes no matter what they have done. So Silas is technically a “Hero”

I thought this was so until I looked at one of the core mechanics of AO, (one not so important mechanic is being able to One-Shot enemies which turns them to dust and vaporizes them on the spot but I will just assume that Silas tries to avoid doing that :wilted_flower:) that being sinking pirate ships and whatnot. When you sink a ship you “defeat” all enemies on it, get the chests and get out. Okay well that’s fine if gone unquestioned but wouldn’t the tired enemies eventually sink with the ship and well……die? This is unless Silas edges his magic very hard, not to paralyze or vaporize any weak pirates and makes sure to deliver them to the nearest Navy Base whenever he raids a ship, this involves alot of effort and we can’t even do that ourselves but it is a possibility…. that i am going to ignore for slandering purposes. (There are so many quests that tell you to sink ships so i am sure atleast one of them is canon.)

This gameplay mechanic presents a interesting narrative. Silas does the usual thing with shonen protagonists, that being killing all the goons but deciding to spare the final big bad due to forgiving them or something. Sparing Adolf Hitler 2 but murdering any rookie pirates he sees sailing around (I think the only exception being Ruby Roger, but come on he’s like the most kind man in the War Seas dude, who would want to hurt him?) Can Silas really be considered merciful?

“ So.. you’re involved in this Top Secret Organization that secretly rules the war seas, does some horrible things and pretty sure experimented on me?…Hmm…Yeah you can live!”

“Aren’t you a Pirate?”

The berserker potion he pops kills him.

Silas? The dead guy from Halloween 2024?

I didn’t know he was important.

I genuinely can’t tell if you’re joking or not

Vetex confirmed that the main character’s name is neither Odysseus Arcane, John Arcane nor John Odyssey, let alone Robert Kane O’Dissy, but Silas

I think a morally grey silas would be cool, and i also think the brotherhood of balance would suit him perfectly as a faction to join

Who the hell is silas

AO main character

Is it the guy who decides to join us and was Allanon’s friend?

That’s Callahan

player but cannon

Damn there’s a secret route where you play as a cannon?

Oh, the canon MC? Definitely a Criminal. With Ravenna putting them in their sites I doubt the grand navy will let the MC go without a bounty for killing the a king and taking out a kingdom fort despite our good intentions.

I do think the canon MC would be way more into the neutral and would prefer cold logic. Essentially they would definitely kill anyone that would prove to be an issue later so it would make sense that Silas would kill anyone that would originally have aimed to kill him.

It would make sense that Silas wouldn’t kill Shaura or iris on the first fights mostly because Shura respects his strength and decides to talk it out (He attacks cuz he already sent a warning for no one to disturb him)

Iris also makes it clear that her combat with you is a misunderstanding so Very spare worthy.

The difference with Elius and his goons is that they really did wanna kill you so you have no choice but to take them out either way. I doubt the canon MC is this “Hero” with a somewhat respected “No kill rule”. Wouldn’t work, wouldn’t make sense.

So yes Silas would definitely kill pirates and others but I’d assume he’d spare navy men, Heroes or other good aligned characters mostly because they simply do not know that you have good intentions and have been falsely criminalized.

If I’m correct the brother hood guy also says the MC has good intentions despite the few kills we have so it should suggest that Silas would fall into that boat in the more logical way.

lemme hold your hand when i tell you this

That’s off-brand cannon

I want a route where Iris suddenly notices a cannon roll in out of nowhere and the last thing she sees is a dense cannonball flying right into her face

I want a route where general Argos fights a cannon firing explosive shells in a desperate attempt to prevent the fort collapsing

I want a route where prince Revon is crushed by a cannon falling from the sky

I always imagined him to be overally neutral. He is most likely considered to be a terrorist in Ravenna, but protector and champion in Skyhall, from kingdom to kingdom his renown would be different. Grand Navy will probably leave him alone as they have no idea if he is a pirate or a secret agent of another kingdom, so uh, they cannot interfere as long as his crimes remain strictly political and not against humanity as a whole.

As for his mentality? I believe both are canon and word “defeated” is being used instead of “killed” because he doesn’t kill all his opponents, so it would be simplier and mb more children friendly to say it like that.

It is up to you to decide how ever your Silas treats his opponents outside of scripted cutscenes.

I still cannot believe that Silas would agree to kill 13 castaways for cultists, like, his whole motivation in the story felt like he would never allow smth like that to happen

The word “killed” appears in the Argos boss note and The Jarl Ivar boss note and in the Jarl Ivar boss note it is explicitly told that YOU kill Jarl Ivar in single combat. There is clearly no problem with killing people in this game.

I wasn’t talking about quests in general, just the fact that there are atleast like 3 different quests that tell you to sink a pirate ship. Doesn’t Silas also sink a few Keraxe ships at port mistral and at The Fenrir, that is completely unavoidable? He is not entirely merciful even if you make him “merciful” so it seems like we are given a Neutral and an Maybe Evil route

Let’s be real, canonically the player joins the Oathkeepers

Secret organization that protects the War seas from unknown threats that sends you to fight several powerful enemies? Definitely sounds like something vetex would intend for the main character to do

Seekers of Sight are BBEG

Oathkeepers omniscience is held back by them not knowing the Aesir was active

What was the thing / chain of historical events that made the Order of Aesir be considered inactive anyways?

Nobody saw them for a very long time

I assume no one was thinking that a group of cultists from like a century ago would return for no reason at all so The Order quicky got a hold of many influencial figures in the War Seas, and at that point nobody could really stop them, even if they tried. (Expect for a particular group of Prodigies..)

The only reason we were able to go after the Order and begin this journey in the first place is because some absolute dumbasses decided to drag someone across town where many saw them, and only due to this mistake, we got onto the trail. This was a mistake they could have avoided by simply sailing the sky ship with Beringer down, in Skyhall it was shown that you CAN sail your skyship down to safely get on the ground, and they did not need to walk all the way to the stepstones.
