Is the Dark Sea too empty?

My first thoughts on the Dark Sea are…not really good. It just feels really empty. Islands are very rare, and the vast majority of your time spent there is just sailing, with nothing to do except block incoming waves. Not only that, but it feels like it takes too long to get to the higher ranges.

What are your thoughts about this?

idk islands seem pretty easy to find to me

I kind of agree in that the distance between the entrance and the second range is way too big, literally sailed straight for 10 minutes+ on a brig and didn’t even reach it, but otherwise the first range has enough things to occupy (although it feels mildly empty with no npc ships)

How? I’ve only found 2 in the span of an hour.

if you follow green ghost ships they lead to islands, also try going more diagonally that seems to find em, actually just follow ghost ships in general 3 outta four I followed led to loot

The way island generation works, they are pretty much always out of sight despite spawning, usually if you have a some clearsight you can find them relatively ea

Keep in mind, the dark sea is bound to improve and get more content, It would be lame if sailing the largest stretch of water in the world was so short, the more events added later on the less boring it will very likely get

imma just say even with that it just kinda sucks.

i’m imagining going into the last range, it took me like an hour without stopping to get there, can barely survive, find some ok shit (apperantly you don’t even get better shit??? you just get more)

and now i have to slog for maybe 1:30 hours at the very least because my ship is slow af now because of damage. and the dangers become less and less and at the first range i might aswell just fall asleep

I thought everybody knew this? :skull:

atp you aren’t really expected to return from range 5, you could try sure but i don’t see why anyone would go the final range besides for one reason. You aren’t actively being pushed too the fifth ranges rn since there isn’t enough content, that is obviously bound to to change.

also another thing to keep in mind is that this is the first sea and not even a fifth of the progression that we will get, it’s very likely for ships to be able to reach the far ranges within a matter of minutes in the endgame

i knew it, the question marks were because i am baffled. i thought it would be ok, but no. right now there is no good reason to go farther than maybe the second range

there’s barely a reason to go into the 2. range

in the first range you are so damn safe and can still pretty easily find chests.

but going to the second range takes so long that by the time you got to the 2. range you’d already have more than enough chests found in the 1. range probably.

the time it takes to get to the later ranges is just too much, unless later we will have mach 10 ships which would kinda suck tbh.

Right, but once we start getting the ability to sail farther out from the Dark Sea, then I’d like to have some option or safeguard just in case I need to go and do something else or I lose connection. I can’t imagine sailing an hour to reach the far reaches only to lose connection, whether it be to shotty connection or an irl storm that just appeared, to be very fun.

Although if you want to use the argument that “you can access every dark sea treasure from every layer, just it’s better or more likely that you’ll get something good the deeper you go”, then by all means, go ahead.

Now that I think about it, what if Vetex added Dark Sea “wind highways”, kinda like a jetstream of highly concentrated wind magic (or any magic to add some spice) which provides your ship with a massive speed boost. Maybe different sail materials can benefit from a winds element more, or
have a higher cap of which they can benefit.
Eg. a wind zone can boost speed by 40, but your sail material can only handle a +20 boost.
These jetstreams of wind/magical energy could be fixed as well, maybe only alternating on what element they are if they have any elemental affinity.

This is cool

Or they just lead you to a ship with 4 basic food crates :3

that counts as loot

6 green apples and some roots :3

W loot

While I think there could be some tuning, it’s at a pretty good spot currently. An example of something I think vetex could add is more markers pointing towards islands, because I feel like there are sometimes stretches where an obvious island would be a good break.

Update: It looks like Vetex has fixed this issue, as he has bumped up the spawn rate of Islands in your field of view!
