Less stigmatized than most slurs, and sometimes depends on situational context

(Also changed your title cause of Rule 22)

Well, it ain’t a completely connected word (listen to how you say it) so it isn’t a musical slur.
But, the other slur… The one that starts with N is a racial slur, so would this be a disability slur? I am not even sure what is even counted as a slur. A word that discriminates? A word representation of a particular group, particularly aimed to be offensive to them?

._.

with americas youth and the general west’s youth yes, the rest of the world (generally) no

kind of

In music, that means to slow down the tempo of the indicated part of music piece.

In French it means late

lol the twitter mob boutta go after the orchestral people

also i wanna add on that the “r word” in my language (arabic) is really not THAT offensive, well yeah its an ocassionally used insult but nobody ever thinks its truly discriminatory/prejudice/ whateverthefuck or uses it in that manner, its only really reserved for like people you know well who just did something really really really fucking dumb or someone being incredibly ignorant, so yes its a heavy insult thats reserved for when “dog” or “idiot” arent enough but its definitely not seen as a slur or anything

though i dont really shy away from using it, i know cultural differences exist and if im around people i know take offense to it then i dont use it :woman_shrugging:

edit: just realized that what i thought the word was in arabic isnt actually the “r word” in english, its just traditional arabic for “backwards”, still theres no real direct translation for the english “r word” in arabic as its just translated into “slowness” (which definitely isnt the “r word”), but pretty sure in proper translations “backwards” in arabic is translated into the “r word” in english so what i said still stands kinda, just thought id add this on since i literally did not notice that it was just “backwards” but in traditional arabic. Yup just translated it and its the “r word” in english so no i wasnt wrong abt the word, it just that the translator didnt notice it was being used for a male and not just a singular noun, anyway this has become way too complex and way longer than it shouldve been

tl;dr no

Nah, though my classmates wouldn’t agree

well im fairly certain the origin of the word was more of a medical condition for a mental disability, but like most things, society has driven it as a word to be used to ridiculise people. it’s sort of similar to how people use down syndrome, it’s a brain condition obviously but people are starting to use it to intesify the usage of the word “idiot” or stupid"

now, is it a slur? uhhh…

i guess? it’s no doubt that there are people out there that suffer from it, but most people that the r word is thrown at are probably not suffering from it so…

It is definitionally a slur. You all can argue about how offensive it is but it’s inarguably a slur.
