Issues or complaints about the game?

I’m gathering feedback relating to Arcane Odyssey since I’ll be making some pretty big suggestions (whenever I unlock suggestor perms), mainly relating to the PVE and build-making side of AO that sometimes feels… well, lacking.

Please leave out anything related to bugs, optimization or the PVE players vs PVP players thing. (Although I may already have an idea how to fix the last one.)

This isn’t meant to be a post to bash on Arcane Odyssey, I just wanna get more opinions on what parts of the game could be improved upon. You can leave your own ideas on how to fix the problems, if you have any.

Unreasonably high combat log punishment if you crash while fighting NPCs
Lost 150k in Yuletide due to the snowmen quest, which makes no sense
Yeah, I get that it’s supposed to stop you from leaving the server and avoid getting hunted by a player, but why if you’re fighting NPCs? You’d lose 5k if you were to die, so why does it have to get to lash you like that?

Outside of the previous complaints, Mage.

Despite magic being so prominent in lore and marketing, pure magic builds are among the most boring to play. Half the rare spells are variations of Blast, Array can’t hit broad side of a brig, and surge is surge. The entire playstyle consists of playing keep away while tossing attacks every now and then, even though mages have the least mobility options.

They’re not fun to play, changing anything around (save for gear) is a pain, interesting things that mages COULD have are going to Oracles (where’s our magic shield?), and unless Full Release comes with unique rare spells (not happening), mage won’t be interesting to play until at least Second Awakening. If the interesting parts of mage are being saved for the future, there’s no point in playing as one until they’re added.

Also, heat magics not working underwater is as good a feature as Hecate Essence, tanning or dirt, especially if we’ll be unable to use them underwater until after FR.

Pretty much every part of how Hecate Essence is implemented.

The game does little to nothing to introduce players to the progression.

In spite of the above point, the game is designed in a way that most boss encounters are balanced around you utilizing mechanics like treasure charts to gear up. (this screws over many new players)

Most of the early progression puts you in locations where mechanics such as treasure charts are inaccessible or might aswell be inaccessible. (The Jaws, Frostmill, Cirrus, Sailor’s, and THEN Ravenna)

There is no way to gather a large variety of useful reagents in a usable quantity without being part of a clan, and plenty more are inaccessible even then.

Most potion reagents are useless.

Abyssal diving borderline requires a 100% breathing set.

PvE combat logs are useless and I’m baffled that they haven’t been removed yet.

Nearing 3 years after release and double heat mages still can’t do anything underwater.

all is mostly well otherwise aside from stats being wayyyy too high atm

i kinda wish the navy, syndicate, and juraserva get a rework like how neo from the balance team tried making, but he told me “draft never sent the proposal”, there still is hope but they told me to make a suggestion but i am not trust level 2 so thats a problem for me, the rework would involve tasks you get depending on your rank, perhaps one could be that at lieutenant you would have a task to go fight a level 120 pirate captain roamind around the sea, and in rear admiral rank you would have to go on a war between a navy fleet and a pirate fleet and you would have to sink all the pirate ships, i dont know how to make examples really

i just want a rework for the navy, syndicate, and juraserva rank system, it would also make PVP a lot more optional too

edit : ok i forgot to mention, there could be either 2 things to this, either the leaderboard is renamed or merged with the normal renown leaderboard, both seem cool to me either way, but if the first one is to go with then we could name the commander replacement as “Sentinel” and the vice admiral as “Hero of The Navy” and admirals as “Legend of The Navy” both being like references to garp because i felt like it could potentially fit well, i dont know what for the syndicate (one could have to do with shadows tho???) or juraserva cuz im also navy-pilled or whatever jtn meant by that

I hate how you spawn in the bottom right corner of the map in the Bronze sea, it’s literally the most content dry area they could’ve come up with besides straight up spawning players behind the pelion rift

the first 10 minutes of gameplay is always just leaving the bottom right corner of the map

I would like to see some kind of dungeon type thing, which you can take on for loot that stays relevant for the entirety of the game (maybe accessories that give certain potion effects instead of stats?), but would also have a range in what stat they give so the player is incentivised to go back into a dungeon to get a better version of that item. (maybe there are also rooms with certain types of reagents)
more importantly is that you can also take them on with friends, which would increase the difficulty, but would also increase the loot that you would get. (so not like the dark sea where you usually get less loot when playing with friends because you split up the chests at the end, like what a good person would do.)

no server instances other than shitbus sea

  • Captain Maria is too hard (idk if she’s been made easier, I haven’t fought her since Nimbus came out)
  • Fog happens way too much
  • Dark Sea doesn’t have a whole lot to do, it is mostly just fighting monsters
  • Lack of replayability

Maria is super easy if you cheese her, and fog isnt a big deal since you got map. Im playing on graphic 3 and 1 sometimes so fog doesnt change anything

i pretty much never dock my ship unless i absolutely need to since if some asshole decides it’d be funny to kill me and sink my ship out of nowhere i’m the one who has to fucking pay for that

It genuinely makes no sense. When using the Nimbus Sea teleporter, we spawn right on Sameria. But when we use the Bronze Sea teleporter, we spawn in front of the Bronze Sea teleporter??

This problem would be solved with players gaining the ability to set their spawn points wherever they want.

I tried doing the cheesing trick and it didn’t work

Yeah I know, I just like being able to see stuff.

Its nore of a bug then a issue,

But most of the time when I sail by or around wind-row or at a radius of it, theres this like this invisible wall that damages my ship like a ram, and it happends in other places also.
