It's joever for my country privacy..?

It seems I can no longer easily hide my country’s location anymore…

Context: These screenshots were taken in Ro-Ghoul. There’s a recent update which allowed players to view everyone’s ping. When you hovered your cursor over a player’s ping, it displays their country.

In every game before that I’ve played that directly/explicitly shows a player’s country on Roblox, it always had the option to hide it.

I censored every username just because I feel like it’s a safe thing to do. For 1 username (darker blue censored), that’s the guy I hovered my cursor over to see their country. For the 2nd image with the blue censor on my ping, that’s when I showed my country.

I could get a VPN, but that gives me more ping. I don’t know if it’s worth it to trade good ping for some location privacy. That’s actually the main reason in the first place I had to be fine with revealing my general location.

even worse is that normal people could access it without special insider access

everything is now starting to get tracked to the very bit for that one advertisement that will hook you
information is an currency too, y’know

I understand your concern about privacy, but uhhhh, country of all things? That narrows down from an entire planet of Earth (since iirc, no other person is known for using the internet outside of the planet of Earth, maybe ISS but not Mars for sure) to maybe a nation or two, unless you’re on such a tiny obscure country, you’re probably fine.

Regardless, you’re probably more exposed when visiting ANY website or random Minecraft server because of how IP addresses works. I mean, how else would they dish you data when your computer requests it? And I’m pretty sure IP addresses can narrow your location down to maybe nearby province or region. Yeah, either use VPN or just acknowledge that you’re already exposed.

If you’re talking about normal people seeing your location, or at least an approximation.. Yeah, I can understand why, so don’t touch any game that publicly shows that user’s country :3

yeah more on normie access; that’s my main focus

what’s anyone gonna do with your country

idk but i feel like shit might go downhill

perhaps narrow down who i am?

Me when I narrow down someone’s location from anywhere on the Earth to a bare minimum of hundreds of kilometers to upwards of thousands and a bare absolute minimum of tens of thousands to millions of people

(this doesn’t do shit besides tell me their timezone [sometimes] and culture)

i also gave so much more info about myself that i’d be narrowed down even more, prolly to 1 person

if they manage to actually find you amongst an entire country of people

if it’s actually enough to narrow you down that badly then that’s a skill issue that isn’t a problem caused by a country reveal but by your own actions.

i’m more worried about the economy and the descent into fascism

I feel like we all are

isn’t it weird how the politicians own everything and i’m never gonna be able to buy a house or even make money that won’t be spent immediately on taxes or food or rent

and like half the world still thinks hard work will get you anywhere

Gilded Age 2.0

true, although you have to search in-person to find me though and i think most of the details i gave are personality-based

dude you’re like 15 why do you repeat shit you’ve read on the internet about buying a house, taxes and hard work?

The problem is the rampart immigration and the allowing of corporations to buy real estate to rent it / hold it until it becomes more valuable
