Just a few questions about AO

So I kept up with AO through development but there just a few questions I have since some of these I forgot or can’t remember if it was changed or not, and some are just game questions

  1. Did Vetex make it so you can’t grab bosses with grab moves like with weapons? If so, does the impact deal damage at least still?
  2. Can you use a grab attack on someone who’s using a magic skill or any other skills?
  3. How does having an arc good with more than 3 or 4 blast attacks (just curious)?
  4. Are placed pillars good in PVP? What about self? And what’s the best explosion type for PVP
  5. Some players who go conjurers lose their weapon damage because of their magic’s damage affinity? Or is it because of interactions? Since I imbued my weapons with lightning does that make their damage weaker or?
  6. Anyone remember how many galleons you lose on death and what the rules/cap are?
  7. I know the power stat was needed but does anyone know how much it increases your damage by?

Yes bosses cannot be grabbed, but are still damaged by them on impact(I think it does like 70% of the grab’s damage)

Carina and other NPCs have done it to me so I would assume so

Imbuement is based on the damage affinity of the magic, so most magics have their damage lowered in exchange for things like status effects, size, synergies & speed

You lose galleons on death when you have 1000+. Im not sure what exactly the rate is but the cap is 350. 80% of what you lose is dropped in a loot bag that can be picked up by you or other players

Oooh okay thank you. I noticed my weapon attacks were faster and bigger but I didn’t notice the damage drop

Ohhh that’s why you can choose between imbuement and no imbuement

grabs instantly deal 80% of total damage I believe

yes, endlag is an important part of balancing in this dodge/punish and prediction based system

Speed of long multiblasts was upped so the arc is actually a nerf so you can’t hit like 10 point blank shots with one punish

they both have their uses, placed are a good finisher (beams had their frame data changed to better match blasts) self are a very good damage tool against either grouped enemies or somebody playing agressively.

You lose damage because they go off of your magics stat they aren’t straight upgrades, You get effects like blindness and damage over times, as well as increased AOE and speed depending on the magic

cap is 350

it is linear, every different attack has a different equation but assume every point will increase your damage by 1

damn that sucks. guess imma never use grabs then. wouldn’t just a grab cooldown on bosses or smth be enough.

consider bosses very frequently don’t act exactly like other npcs

movement patterns and such would lead to jank most likely

Grab immunity already exists for both players and NPCs, I think grabbing bosses was causing them to get bugged out or something

I should add power affects damage of the attack as a whole not each individual hit in it

so 127 power won’t make your 20 multiblasts deal like 180 damage each you’ll just deal 127 more damage overall

this is very approximate multi blasts have a more complex equation to them I believe

only thing against grabbing bosses i’ve heard was that vetex doesn’t want them to be infinite comboed

impossible anyway considering the lack of stun moves and grab cooldowns

@Divanochi @Crystalys do you remember if there’s a way to check Grand Navy influence in a secret and what the rules/system for it are?

Grand navy members can check it in the clan UI, regular players just need to wait til messages appear in the chat informing them about influence changes

Below 20%, gravy ship spawning is drastically reduced and silver hold can be captured

At high influence, gravy ships spawn much more

Ooo okay

For pirate ships I know they spawn way more at 20% but does it change at like let’s say 50% or 40%
