i always thought the thorne empire pictured itself as a peaceful kingdom but in reality they’re really bad, hence why they attacked ravenna, because of pure jealousy over their control of the bronze sea

It wasnt that they were jealous, more like they saw that Ravenna would eventually become too powerful in the War Seas due to being the only kingdom in the Bronze Sea (so free access to all its resources) and would become a threat so they wanted to stop Ravenna while they werent as strong just yet.
Zaix says that he probs would make the same decisiok if he was in their position, so it wasnt exactly a “power-hungry” move.
I got a feeling they did this because it happened in the past. John Thorne witnessed the destruction of his homeland, and possibly other kingdoms becoming dangerous before, so he wanted to stop it.

i do think the theory is pretty solid, we don’t know if there were any kings before nero so ravenna was likely just a small town beforehand
But King Calvus is King Calvus the Fourth. That mean that there were atleast three other Calvuses beofre Nero. I don’t think they were kings, but probably mayors or elites
looking at how large winterveil’s kingdom was, i doubt ravenna would’ve been a kingdom before their downfall.
I don’t think it was a kingdom, I think it was just a self governing small city like Cirrus Island.
